If you are ill, its awful, but how awful if you are ill and not too sure how or if you are covered by a NHS or Private System either here or in the UK.
There are many English People that are neither here nor there. What I mean by that are people that have come over and just do cash in hand jobs.
The Costa Del Sol Hospital is cracking down on people using their EHIC Card all the time. If you havent paid into the system - you may not get seen.
If you dont have Private Health Care either then you have a problem!
Many English People move countries because they were fed up with all "The Foreigners" using their benefits and health system - well dont YOU become "The Foreigner" here.
Many people have Helicopterous Santarious but personally for a bit more a month I think Private Health Care would be better. Helicopterous will come out to you in an emergency and treat you but if you need a scan or operation you will have to pay for that if you are not covered.
I have been shopping around and have found health care for as little as 40€uros per month.
40€uros per month on Private Health Care
or
4 drinks down Puerto Banus?
I know which one I would go for!

I can't agree with you more on how important private health insurance is. After a friend was ill one year ago I decided to invest in private health insurance and it has honestly been the smartest thing I have ever done. This year, one year to the date of my friend, I found myself needing hospital treatment and an operation - completely unexpected and out of the blue - and thankfully I was fully covered insurance wise. I have a Prima Iberica health plan operated by A La Carte Healthcare in Centro Plaza, Nueva Andalucia, and the staff there were extremely helpful and efficient, ensuring a stress free service at a critical time. Good news I'm on the road to recovery!
Sorry to hear you have been unwell, I hope it wasnt anything serious.
Regards
Jo
