Saturday Evening we had another Birthday Party in our friends garden. Its was lovely, very relaxing. We left there about 10pm and our little girl assured us that she wasnt tired so we thought we would go and see whats happening in Puerto Banus.
It was really busy. Loads of stags and hens including a Spanish Stag Night - the first one I have seen, where the stag was dressed as a maid - didnt look very happy though.
Outside Sinatras was packed, really hard to even walk through, I do find that place amazing, its only a bar and everyone stands outside anyway. Salduba was empty. Queues for Picassos were really long and also for Pappadellas.
In the centre of Puerto Banus all the tents are up selling all the clothes, bags, furniture that they do every year. Makes that square look so much better.
Lots of work is still going on in the big shop on the corner behind Andalucia Dream Homes building - still no idea what thats going to be. Anyone know?

Terrazza Dual - Marbella
On Friday we took a walk along Marbella Sea front and thought we would grab a pizza at Terrazza Dual on the Golden Mile, just passed Da Brunos.
We have never been here before.
We just had 2 pizzas to share between us, a Margarita and one with fried potato on, which was quite nice.
Both pizzas were good, not amazing, but good. We just had that along with 2 beers and 2 bottles of water and bill was about 30€uros. Staff were nice, service was very good.
They also do a takeaway service Pizzers rante from 8.50 - 12€uros. Meat Dishes from 12.50€ to 22€. Fish Dishes from 13.50€ to 24€, Pasta Dishes from 10€ to 14€

State Schools in Nueva Andalucia
Hi Jo,
I will be moving to Marbella with my partner and my 6 year old son in September and was wondering if you could help me with a few things.
I would really like our son to go to a local Spanish school but I'm finding it quite difficult. I saw on your website that there was 2 Spanish primary schools i the area, Colegio cc El Angel and CEIP Nueva Andalucia. I have tried to call them get a bit more information on them to see which one is better and to find out when the term starts in September but because of the language barrier I'm getting nowhere!
Would you please be able to help me with this as I'm not to sure what i can do as i do not know anyone who speaks or understands Spanish!
Hope to hear from you soon
Thank you
P.S The magazine is great! it has been so useful.
Hi
If you dont speak Spanish, and finding it difficult now, its not going to get any easier. Enrollment for public schools took place in March / April already. The ones in Nueva Andalucia are pretty full from what I understand as there are only 2.
The schools are closed now until Mid September. I really dont know what else you can do. Only wait till september and go there to see if there are spaces.
Many people put their names down for numerous schools so come september, some kids may or may not turn up.
If you cant get your child in in September, sometimes they have accept children in January. go there in Person in September. You need NIE, Proof of Vacinations, proof of address etc etc. Schools are based on a point system i.e, where you live and how much money you earn.
However, saying this I know people that send their kids to State School and never paid social secuirty payments or even have NIE - not too sure how they do this but theres a way I guess. If not, Im sure there will be some spaces in the private International schools should you choose this option. I heard today of someone getting their child into a very popular private school that had waiting lists, but they had an interview yesterday and confirmed today to start in September.
Hope this helps
Regards Joanne

Cheap Car Hire Malaga to Nueva Andalucia? Not this year!
Hi Jo,
Just been looking to hire a car for our visit to Maestranza in August, but given the present climate I am amazed to see prices have rocketed! I thought they would be vying for the supposed lesser amount of trade?
Last year we paid around £350 (previous years had been £250-£280) and now all the quotes are coming back at way over £450.00 even for a titchy car with no space for luggage. So I have decided that this year we could probably live without this “luxury” as we don’t use it a great deal when we are there, maybe the odd day excursion to Ronda/Gib.
I have a quote for round trip/shuttle for the airport for £135.00 for the three of us, so it’s beginning to look like a no brainer as to what we do!Any way, my questions are about getting around without a car. Mainly is there a bus that goes from the complex to the port for when we want to go to the beach for the day, carting all the associated bits and bob’s along with our 5 year old will be a faf walking!
How frequent are they, is buying a weekly ticket cheaper or even possible? Also how much are cabs in the area?We have a favourite little Spanish run beach bar/tapas restaurant we like to go of an evening, situated at San Pedro Alacantra called Largo’s. Again if it were just the wife and I we’d walk along the beach from Puerto Banus as it’s just near that dried up river bed (if you know where I mean?)Any info would greatly appreciated and as usual if you want to put the info on your blog feel free to do so.

Hi Ian
Hi Ian
Yes, this is the case and did write about this in my last newsletter. Many companies have sold of cars, meaning fewer and so the last few - prices are going sky high. Here is a website for buses http://www.ctsa-portillo.com/horarios.html and from Marbella Bus Station where you can go to Gibratar, Malaga etc.
Heres a page with the prices of the buses etc http://www.marbella.es/ayuntamiento/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=130&Itemid=311&lang=en
There are main buses which travel from say Malaga to Marbella to Estepona. Then each area have urban buses. So local buses for marbella, local buses for estepona etc etc. If you scroll down this page you can down load all the local buses and time tables and routes http://www.marbella.es/ayuntamiento/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=130&Itemid=311
I think they charge for kids too on the bus at 5 years old. You can buy weekly tickets Im sure but dont know where from. Minimum taxi journey from say la maestranza to puerto banus is about 5.50€ - thats if you dont get ripped off which is what happens if you dont speak spanish. Try it with out a car maybe and see.
Maybe save most of the money comeing from the airport by getting the airport bus for 5euros each. But then you still need to get a taxi from bus station to nueva andalcuia. There is a guy on the complex that will do cheaper runs to airprot and bus station which may be of use too. Ive had to rely on buses a handful of times and hated it. on my own and with my daughter. But it does make you appreciate the car when you get it! The big cost is getting from the airport. You could get the train the furthest possible to Fuengirola, then the taxi would be maybe about half the price.
Its a difficult one, as its hot and the last thing you want to be doing is waiting hours on end for a bus when on holiday. But 450 pounds is alot of money. And if all you are going to do is stay local, then try going without a car this time - and book sooner next year.
I hope this helps..if you dont hire a car, let me know what happens and how your holiday goes. Jo

Cultural Differences in Schools in Marbella, Spain
Whether you send your Kids to an English or Spanish School, State or Private you will notice the cultural differences.
I wanted my daughter to go to Spanish State School, at least until she was 7 or 8 years old - but in the end this didnt happen. Always my main concern with this was being the foreigner in a Spanish School. I speak ok Spanish, better than many people here, but still not great. The thought of struggling to understand or find out whats going on everyday, talking to the teachers and not understanding completely what they are saying - was going to be difficult - although it would have pushed me to keep up my Spanish Lessons.
Ive met English people who dont even know the name of the school their kids go to - thats how bad their level of Spanish is. But on the other hand, i also find it amazing the amount of Spanish Parents who send their children to what they call an "English School" yet dont speak any English themselves.
I see the struggles this side too - where a Spanish Speaking teacher has to come to translate, kids turning up on days without things they are suppose to bring, because their parents didnt understand, kids late for school - because a few minutes doesnt matter - mañana mañana. You also also see cultural differences when it comes to bringing in "Healthy Snacks".
I have quite a few friends with kids in Spanish School - and their main thing is that sometimes its a hard to completely understand all the paperwork - but rest assured - I get everything in English and sometimes I still find it hard to understand, or its not very clear, or where the letter has come out a week late.
Another thing is that many Spanish parents only send their children to English / International School for primary. Im always amazed how open they are saying this and that the children are very much aware of this too.
The cultural difference in how 2 curriculums are taught in 1 school is incredible too. One encourages children to read, whilst the other doesnt.
My daughter is only 5 and been reading well for quite a while now, shes reading books like "I want my potty" & "I want to be" by herself. It really is amazing, Im very proud of her, but sometimes wonder if its right. The kids are still so young and at such a young age they are so competitive and under such pressure to keep up with the others. Is this really good for them?
In England my friends kids arent reading like this, and in Spanish School kids my daughters age arent reading either.
Its the year coming to an end seeing my little girl quite emotional this morning, dealing with lots of different thoughts and feelings in her little head is really upsetting. Teachers leaving, packing up class, moving to a new class, moving up a year, being told whats expected of them....its all a bit too much for her, and maybe me too.
Heres to summer holiday!

Blanco La Canada - Sales on Now!
If you like Blanco in La Canada, then get yourself down the quick as everything was 50% off. The shop was heaving. Queues for changing rooms, queues to pay.
A couple of the other shops also had some good sales on. The childrens shop upstairs opposite the bowling alley had 2 for 1 - which is half price (kind off).
I bought a couple of pillow cases in Imperial - they have sheets & towels really cheap at the moment - cheaper than Dunnes and no schlapping there. Imperial have some great offers - if looking for pictures or mirrors, then go there - they are big and cheap. They are closing down soon apparently, but moving upstairs to where the Opticians is.
So where is Marks & Spencers going to go? Where Imperial is now? Ive been told a few times its going upstairs but I cannot think where.
Sales start July 1st and continue till beg of September.

Wedding Cakes, Party Cakes in Marbella - Cake Marbella

A couple of weeks ago I got an email from Mark at CakeMarbella.com. For the past few weeks all I have heard about is Cakes & Cake Toppers - I had no idea all these companies existed.
Mark wanted to send me some samples of their cakes for me to write about - and im more than happy to give my personal, honest review.
Yesterday I was working from home so Mark dropped the cakes off at my husbands office. My husband called me and said the box was lovely, I said open it and he went "wow, they look amazing" even the other guys in the office were impressed.
My husband said he will bring them home later and well eat them together. Yeah right!!! that didnt last long as a few minutes later I got a text saying "wow, these taste amazing too".
Being rather concerned that there would be non left for me to try and write about, I drove by the office to pick them up.
There were 5 left. Me and my little girl had one each. I LOVE CAKE but even one of these cupcakes was too much for me. I had the chocolate one and its was delicious. My daughter also absolutely loved hers too.
In the evening we sat down for supper and as usual follow with something sweet. 3 cupcakes left. We shared the first which was a reddy brown one (think red velvet) - omg this was amazing. Like black forest gateau without the mess, absolutely amazing. 4 down 2 to go. We share the lemony one - now Im really stuffed, I just cant eat anymore, I cant. Yet my husband couldnt help himself at started to tuck into the last one.
Whilst hes finishing off the last of the cakes, I said so how was Mark Stickland from Cake Marbella? My husband literally jumped out of his chair and said "is that his name, is that his name". All day long my husband had been sure he knew Mark from somewhere and it had been driving him mad all day.
Years ago they worked for the same company and they havent seen each other for about 20 years. Isnt that a coincidence?
So going back to Cake Marbella - well the cakes are absolutely delicious and look amazing too and presented in a beautiful box. They do cupcakes and also large celebration cakes too. My favourite has to be their Wedding Cup Cakes I think this is a great idea.
Cupcakes are 1.75€ each which I think is a great price, they really are alot bigger than I thought they were going to be and larger cakes start from just 25€uros.
Heres what Cake Marbella say themselves...
We have been supplying many of the hotels, restaurants, delis and cafes from Sotogrande to Malaga, but mainly in the Marbella area.

Improvements for Davis Cup around Nueva Andalucia
If you are good in Spanish then you can read the original article here, if not this is a very very rough translation of whats happening in Nueva Andalucia with regards to the Davis Cup.
"The Cup Davis arrives at Marbella in barely three weeks. Is for this that the preparations so that the city, and especially New Andalusia and Port Banús light up their better galas they are more intense than never, though the time limit are complying. Parks and Gardens is also doing their part. Not in vain, it has itself placed in motion a sectorial plan of beautification and improvement of the green areas and roundabouts of new Andalusia. Thus, the past Friday, the director of district, Baldomero Lion, and the director of Parks and Gardens, Eloy Ortega, they recalled that 9,000 plants in the zone understood since the access will be planted this of new Andalusia to the Aloha College. In the same way, they will develop works of pruning, cleaning of palm tree and installation of automatic irrigation in the municipal kindergartens. They will improve about ten roundabouts of the district, like those of Orchids, Cibeles or The Breezes".

House Clearances Nueva Andalucia Marbella
With so many people leaving and going back the UK there are alot of house clearances going on, but I keep hearing about them too late.
With "La Crisis" I think its great to have these house clearances and give money to people that are leaving or just need it, rather than line the pockets of El Corte Ingles.
Im looking for a cheap Fridge, Parasol & Stand, VGC Sofa Bed, TV and maybe a few other bits.
If you know of any very very cheap things around or house clearances or fancy swapping something like link etc or advertise your house clearance on here, let me know.
Always happy to talk
Jo

Im looking for a cheap Fridge, Parasol & Stand, VGC Sofa Bed, TV and maybe a few other bits.
If you know of any very very cheap things around or house clearances or fancy swapping something like link etc or advertise your house clearance on here, let me know.
Always happy to talk

Sushi in Nueva Andalucia, Marbella - Sensations restaurant Nueva Andalucia
If you like sushi, then you will be pleased to hear a new Deli has opened up in Nueva Andalucia. I havent tried it yet, but hope too soon. I just havent had the chance to go anywhere for lunch recently Im so busy. But today found out they do deliveries too so that might be a way forward.
You can see the Sensations Menu Here and all looks pretty good value really. They even have a page about How to make Sushi. They also do wraps and breakfasts too.
I love sushi and the last time we had it was in Australia last summer. It was amazing and my little girl tried it and loved it too.
Sensations are next to Reginas by the Andalucia Plaza Hotel.
952 818615 is the number if you want them to deliver.

Police & The Lookie Lookie Men in Puerto Banus & Marbella
Yesterday walking around Marbella and along the sea front, there was a load of Lookie Lookie men.....is that their name? Am I allowed to use that term? Im never too sure.
There were loads hanging around selling all types of fake bags, watches, sun glasses. Along with all the lookie lookie men were quite a few police cars driving along too.
Its actually quite funny watching all the Lookie men run for cover, although it doesnt take a brain surgeon to see where they are hiding. Normally taking cover on the steps / ramps going down to the beach / alleys ways.
My point is that - if we can all see them, then the police can see them too - yet they dont do anything about it - although they say they are going to do something and crack down.
I dont really mind them, its all part of the holiday feel, and I quite like haggling with them as they are the only people you can really haggle with here.
But my point is that once again if Puerto Banus / Marbella really wanted to get rid of these people selling all the fake goods and the bad behaviour by holiday makers and residents involving drink & drugs, they can do - but they are choosing not too.

Manuel Carrasco - Plaza de Toros Marbella
Whilst at the Art Fair yesterday in Marbella, we seemed to have just missed the free concerts / music that had been going on.
In case any of you are intersted, Manuel Carrasco is playing at the Plaza De Toros Marbella. You can get ticets at El Corte Ingles or FNAC. Between 17 and 21€uros.
Personally I have no idea who he is if Im honest with you but know that its quite nice going to concerts and trying something a little different.
If you picked up one of the leaflets yesterday, Da Bruno restaurant advertised on the back offering a free bottle of house wine for every 2 people for lunch or dinner.

Boots in Marbella, Spain
Sorry guys, but yes the following was just another rumour.
So we´ve got Marks & Spencer opening in La Canada hopefully before Christmas, weve got Top Shop & Habitat too. Wouldnt it be fab if Boots opened up?
Well I have heard that this may well be happening - how great and fantastic would it be for Boots the Chemist to be in La Canada too?
How nice would it be to walk in to a shop and buy whatever tablets, creams, medicines you want and be able to read the boxes yourself rather than wait to be served.
It would just be fantastic if we got all the fantastic deals like 2 for 1 offers.
Oh I do hope it happens and its not just another chinese whisper.

Bike Ride, Swimming, Beach & Art Fair in Marbella
Oh what a busy day yesterday. Started out with our bike ride down to the beach and all along. Still couldnt work out how to get my bike on at this time, so I rode to the beach.
Then back home to the pool - lovely and quiet, felt like we had a private pool. Back in for lunch - leftovers from Saturday Night, Chicken Caesar Salad.
Back out to have a look at the Art Fair in Marbella. Really interesting to see all the different types of artists around. Our friend & favourite artist in Marbella :) was there showing off all his work - Conrad Jones. He really can paint anything you want - hes brilliant!
We parked underneath the main square in Vinci Car Park - if you didnt know - they have offers like - if its your birthday you dont have to pay, if its raining they will lend you an umbrella and they will also lend you a bike if you want one.
It was very hot walking around so back home to change for a couple of hours on the beach by Puente Romano Hotel. The water was the clearest I think I have seen it in a long time. Although a little bit further up in a cove was loads of rubbish - crisp packets, plastic bags, bottles floating around where families have been all day having their picnic.
Back home for more food and a early night for my little girl who only has 3 more days left at school.
10 weeks holiday!!!!

Saturday Afternoon with Friends in Marbella
Yesterday we did our normal Saturday of friends coming over about 4 ish, after weve done our chores and then had a little siesta.
I love having people over on a Saturday cause 1, it makes the weekend seem longer, 2 I always make far too much food, meaning Sunday we have have lots of leftovers and can chill by the pool or beach.
Instead of a barbe where one person is always standing around cooking and getting very hot, which is not what you want in this weather, I prepared everything in advance. Simple boiled new potatoes in olive oil & sea salt, coleslaw, caesar salad and stuck 2 chickens in to roast.
With kids its so much easier being around someones house than sitting in a restaurant and its great when everyone chips in. We prepared the food and everyone else brought the drinks in their coolboxes. If we all sat in a restuarant for that amount of time eating and drinking the bill for 6 adults and 4 kids would probably be about 300/ 400€uros! Not entirely sure how much we spent but definately no where close to this.
A lovely afternoon & evening, thanks guys.

Bike Racks in Marbella - Where to buy a Bike Rack
Nothing is ever easy in Spain, whether its setting up a business or trying to understand simple instructions to put a bike rack up.
Yesterday morning we all wanted to go out for a bike ride, but my little girl isnt confident about going down the hill. Weve been meaning to get one for a few weeks now. So yesterday morning husband went to Norato La Canada to get one. He came back with one that held up to 3 bikes.
How exciting....this means that when we go anywhere now by car we can take our bikes.
On the box it said 5 minutes to put together! 5 Minutes - what a laugh. The instruction book was so confusing this too about 30 minutes to read through and understand.
Then after fiddling around 45 minutes we finally get it done.
Great, can finally go for our bike ride, except - my bike wont fit on cause its not got a bar going across!!!
So annoying - if you have had this problem and have any solutions, please let me know.

Marks & Spencer Marbella - Marks & Spencer Spain
UPDATE REVIEW OF M&S Marbella
Everyone seems to know and be talking about M&S coming to Marbella. Having just been looking at the website, it will be interesting to see what the prices are going to be like.
From experience before, generally the prices are quite a lot higher than normal UK prices - but they do have to get the stuff here.
However, for only 10 pounds you can get what you want delivered from the uk to Spain.
In fact I think Marks & Spencer are fantastic as they also deliver to France, Germany, United States and Canada, Australia & New Zealand. from 10 to 20 pounds. Such a brilliant move.
And if you want to apply for a Job in Marks & Spencer Spain http://www.yorkmarbella.es/ 0034 952 82 2946

Peacocks in Gibraltar - Peacocks in Spain
Peacocks was a shop that you just didnt go into years ago. It was an embarasment to even stand in one let alone wear the clothes.
But since Primark, Peacocks up´d its game and has become very popular with key fashion items at low price.
I was looking for a maxi dress for the summer and up came a picture of a gorgeous dress - from Peacocks.
The last time I was in Gibraltar end of April I think, I saw that Peacocks was opening up.
Does anyone know if its open yet. I have found the contact details on the website so I think it is, Ill give them a call tomorrow.

Beauty Therapist That Comes to your home in Marbella
Its been ages since I had a bit of time just for myself. This morning is cleaning morning and did quite a bit and ironing. Then I had my beauty therapist come to me at 12 for a pedicure and manicure. Its been ages since I had something done and with summer here my feet were in a terrible state. My fingers werent much better, honestly I felt terrible with bad nails.
I just dont know how she makes my short horrible looking nails look so nice, but she does.
Today ive got a beautiful pink fusia colour. Email me if you want her number.

Marbella in June Up on the roof
We had a great weekend, although were all very tired. Think its the weather, feels very heavy, muggy and bit dull.
Saturday we started off with food shopping in Supersol. Such great range of fruit and veg, meat is good too, although speaking to a friend, it seems the one in Marbella is more expensive that then ones in Estepona direction!
Had our routine siesta as its summer now before our friends came over at 4ish. When kids get on, it makes life so easy. No crying, no screaming, no arguing. We sat up on our roof terrace, eating & drinking, then had a round of darts with our new dartboard from Intersport Marbella. Although, the wall felt more darts than the board is many cases.
Then we chilled whilst the kids danced to high school musical and abba, doing their little shows as they do. From 4 till about 12pm, there was not 1 argument or problem between the kids and the adults just sat, relaxed and had a wonderful evening.
The temperature was perfect. This is when you appreciate living in Spain - when you more or less can sit outside every single day and night in June July & August.

Tramps Puerto Banus
Yesterday we met up with some friends and went to Tramps Chiringuito in Puerto Banus. I havent been there in ages. When I came on a girly holiday about omg prob 14 years ago now that was where we ate the whole time. With my limited knowledge of good food, back then it tasted ok.
But I was shocked yesterday, me & my daughter shared a pizza and chips. Im pretty sure the pizza was a magarita from Mercadona and even that wasnt cooked right. The underneath was soggy. The chips were ok. The salads - well looked presentable but Im pretty sure they used tim veg and potatoes.
This is such a prominent chiringuito in Puerto Banus, I just cant beleive the food. It hasnt moved on. Its a nice location to sit but thats about it. The staff are quite nice and friendly although did forget a couple of things. The toilets - well taps were broken, wasnt that clean. If it hadnt been for being with such lovely people in good company, I probably would have left.
Buddha Beach was busy with lots of different people, singles, couples, families. But its not cheap. A can of drink I understand is about 4€uros.
When we first came here, we used to sit at a chiringuito in all day long with a family of about 5. Kids could go and ask for whatever they wanted as the prices were just a 1€uros for cans or ice-cream. You didnt worry about the tab as it wasnt going to go more than about 50€uros. Now you get about 2 starters and 2 drinks for that.
Families are what Puerto Banus needs.

Entre Sierras - Restaurants in Istan
A couple of weeks ago we had family here and they love to go up to Istan. We went to our favourite restaurant Entre Sierras.
My daughter had the chicken & chips, me too, the others had beef spare ribs and a mixture of fish and salads. For pudding we had choc brownie and cheese cake. Every single bit of food was absolutely delicious. I think the bill for 4 of us was just over 50€uros.
We then take our usual walk around the town out to the playground where I normally always get talking to the old locals that sit around. I love chatting to them, but do find it very hard to understand them - their accents are really strong.
If you go up there, mention this blog to Sally.

Marbella Feria
My daughter has been off school this Thursday & Friday as its Marbella Feria on Thursday. On Thursday we had our first proper siesta of the year - we both fell asleep for 2 hours!
We had a lovely day together by the pool, doing a bit of reading and arts & crafts. Then in the evening we went to see the Feria. We completely forgot where abouts it was and ended up walking around Marbella Old Town for a while. It was really busy with a really great atmosphere. Just like the old days!
Then we went to the feria which is down just before all the car garages in Marbella on the left (by the poligono).
We got there about 10ish and it was really buzzing. Loads of families and kids. All the usual rides and games and same old tat being sold, but good fun.
Im not too sure when the last night is, but if you have kids and looking for something to do tonight, then take them to the Feria.
Park by the Poligono opposite the Single Home Building.

Marks & Spencers Marbella - La Canada - M&S Marbella
UPDATE - Personal REVIEW OF M&S MARBELLA
I was told this morning about an advert in the Sur Paper. M&S are looking for Bilingual Staff for their Marbella Store.
HOW AMAZING if M&S open up in Marbella! Oh the food, the good quality clothes for kids and underwear - I cant wait. But what will the prices be like?
I also find it a worry when there are Franchises here in Spain or maybe I should say Marbella. Its just not the same as back home. The service is not as good. Getting good staff to front these franchises is the most important thing otherwise it just wont work.
Clarks opened up here - closed - althought the prices were very high. Terrasana have lots of little outlets now - but you go to one its great, the others are crap. Ill never forget the time we went to the one in Marbella Port - it was rubbish, the food was disgusting - hence its closed down.
I have spoken this morning with someone from Marks & Spencers and waiting for confirmation and more details, but it does look like there are going forward with it.
How exciting - I know the perfect person to work there and going to call them right now!
Heres how to apply

Travel Cot 37€uros Lidl
This morning I popped into my Love & Hate Shop Lidl.
Needed water and a few bits and today they had a travel cot. Been looking for a second hand one but people still want 20 or 30euros.
Saw one in Lidl 37€uros.
Just opened it at home and its the big size one that fits a normal size cot mattress in.
Very pleased with it.
Blue & Yellow, folds up and bag too.

Eva Longoria in Marbella - Eva Longora Marbella
Just seen Pictures of Eva Longoria in Marbella, sitting in a Horse & Cart in Marbella with the view of La Concha right behind her.
Eva Longoria looks stunning, even though just wearing a pair of jeans and top. She was dressed more like for winter yesterday.
They took a ride around and then shes spotted walking around Marbella Old Town outside the Shop La Paz which sells some really beautiful bits and peices for the house.

David Bentley - Buddha Beach Puerto Banus
Could there be more trouble ahead? We´ve already had the shootings at The Point, El Jardin, Nikki Beach and many others. But according to the Daily Star, they reakon that there could be trouble at Buddha Beach Puerto Banus.
On Friday Night David Bentley (player for Tottenham) will be hosting a Summer Party at Buddha Beach Puerto Banus which he co owns.
Theres going to be numerous other Sporting Stars and the usual chicks, prancy around practically naked.
This is taken from the Daily Star
"But the stars won’t be the only big names as gangsters have also put the date in their diaries.
The resort is a haven for British, Irish and East European hoods who have got rich on the cocaine trade. And they are expected to be out in force, rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous.
But crime experts warn the volatile mix could spell trouble. Wensley Clarkson, the author of Gang Wars On The Costas, said: “These people don’t go out in places like Puerto Banus without a bodyguard who’s armed and they themselves may also be armed.
“It’s going to be a deadly mix. All it takes is for a footballer to lock eyes on the girlfriend of a criminal and there could be hell to pay.” Read More Here

Martin Hickman Marbella
Martin Hickman is all over the papers at the moment as he is about to get sentenced for selling Fake Viagra over the internet. Its funny reading the stories, how so many criminals have houses in Marbella. We are always known as the "Spanish Millionaires Resort".
Reading through the Daily Mail report, it seems Martin Hickman has been in and out of trouble for selling other drugs including Steroids.
With Marbella being such a small place, I always try find pictures of people to see if I know them but cant find one.

Well my weekend didnt quite go according to plan. Saturday morning the weather was dreadful, couldnt beleive it! We had a birthday party midday and the a bbq planned in the evening.
We lounged around all morning, then went to the birthday party at Kids Kingdom Cancelada. It was really busy as the weather was bad. Then the bbq in the evening was cancelled cause of the weather, so we ended up going out to Tarantino Italian in San Pedro with some friends who birthday party they were going to got cancelled as well.
Had a fab day with friends and great time in the restaurant as its perfect cause the kids can play in the square.
Sunday Morning after a bad nights sleep, got up early, baked some cakes for todays bbq and got ready to go do check out and check in on holiday apartments and I suddenly felt really ill, shakey, sicky and I spent most of the day in the loo with a very very bad stomach.
It lasted all day and I just sipped water. I phoned Helicopterous who said sip Aquarius Lemon Drink and only eat plain boiled or grilled food - no dairy or fruit.
I didnt really eat anything till the evening, just a potato with a bit of salt - its incredible who amazing food tastes when you havent eaten for 24 hours.
Today Im better, but feel very tired and weak. Going to try take it easy today.

Kids Drowning in Pools in Spain
Its that time of year where we are going to here bad news about kids dying from drowning in pools. Dont let it be yours
Please please please take care, even in the baby pools in shallow water a child can drown.
Just read these stories.....
Heres a story of a 2 year old british boy that recently drowned.
More Stories from the Telegraph
18 month old girl drowned in Alicante
More stories of many people who died last summer from drowning
I am always stunned at the way people still let their babies run by the sea or even enter swimming pools with their normal nappy in.
Kids that are left at the pools with no parents expecting others to take care.
Kids parties with lots of young kids jumping and playing in the pool - yet no adults in the pool.
I may be too over protective about my daughter, but Id rather be that, than read about her in one of the stories above.
My daughter is 5 and a half and swims very very well without armbands. But she does not go swimming at the moment without me or her dad around.
It takes a split second for a child to drown.
Read about Leon Quinlan at www.waterangels.org where they have Posters and information for you to print out and put in your own urbanisation.

The thoughts on Marbella by property owner for over 25 years.
Dear Jo,
I think you run a good site, useful, informative & constructive.
I have been in Southern Spain for over 25 years as a property owner, I originally started in Marbella itself in a small development called Puerto Azul next to the Skol Hotel, those were the days when Banus had just opened, Silks was the restaurant in the Port & James Hunt was involved with a nightclub called Oscar's.
I then moved to Nueva Andalucia just behind the Andalucia Plaza Hotel. I subsequently moved to Guadalmina & then to banus itself, the playas del duque complex which is fantastic (& expensive !!!!), I was lucky in that i sold in Playas del Duque 3 years ago & moved to Elvira to a new development that had just been built. Bearing in mind we have only ever used our homes for holidays spending on average 2 months a year in southern Spain i still feel well qualified to make some observations on what i feel are the current problems facing the area.
Putting the current economic turmoil aside (the worst in living memory), Marbella has been on the slide for a long long time. The Gill administration did raise the levels of infrastructure dramatically but obviously the well documented "exploits" of that & subsequent administrations has contributed to the very negative press the area receives but to me one of the main reasons the area has slumped is that there has been a gradual shift away from the family environment , family orientated atmosphere to one of "lets pretend to be jet set for a week while we are on holiday", the old siesta beach club (now the luxurious ocean club) was old , decaying but was packed to the brim every day with families, year after year the same families would come back, where do these families have to go now, not welcomed at the Ocean Club, Nikki Beach or Las Dunas (Estepona).
I am in business & all for progress, my two oldest sons (21 & 17) spend there days at the Ocean Club or Plaza Beach then do the Sintilate round of clubs etc of a night, thats great for them BUT there is really not a lot of places for younger families any more, you can still eat in the port & walk round the shops but come 10.00 at night the older "boys & girls" are out to play & the atmosphere certainly changes.
We generally use the the swimming pools at my complex one day & then somewhere like the beach club at the Don Carlos Hotel the next, though this is pretty costly moving to the Elvira Area we have sampled a new range of restaurants that we had not tried before, Alberts & De Brunos's in Cabopino are good but the beach house at Elvira sums up the "new" Marbella, rude , indifferent staff & costly but mediocre food served to a clientelle of "wanabees" & "plastic gangsters". So, the economy will turn, building work will resume, the property market will start to show some signs of life again but untill businesses on the Costa realise that they need to attract families again Marbella & its sourrounding areas will continue to decline.
There is no reason why the young vibrant & trendy set can not coexist alongside family orientated venues & an area that I love dearly can not regain some of its former lustre.

Summer Camps in Marbella
There are loads of places to send your kids this summer. It just depends on what they fancy doing. Sports, Arts & Crafts, Drama, Dancing, Singing. The list is endless.
Most are costing around 100euros per week from 9 to 1 or 10 to 1. Schools seem to be a little more around the 130€uro per week.
Some will give discounts for the 2nd child, some give disocunts if you book the whole 4 weeks, some you can pay daily. Theres so much choice this year.

Cheques Libros - Free Books in Spanish State School
Hi Jo, Do you know anything about "Cheque Libros" or have written about them in the past? They are basically subsidised school books for state schools. The way I have had it explained to me last year is that one year you get the money to buy the books but you have to return them at the end of the year and the following year, you get second hand books. I am just looking into it now since I only found out about it last September and it was too late. I think the paperwork needs doing very soon. Might be of interest to your readers if you want me to give you the low down on it, links etc. Every little helps!
Hi Nicola,
I have heard of some schools giving away free books, but dont know much else. Any information you can find out would be great.
Hi Jo, Have just spoken to the school about these. It is only for Junior school upwards, like I suspected. In my school, Isdabe, they are not taking applications until September but a lot of schools do it around this time of year so I would suggest that people ask in their school about the "Programa de Gratuidad de Libros de Texto" or as it seems to commonly be referred to the "Cheque Libros". I am not sure what the requirements would be to be elegible for this but it would be logical to presume it is based on income and your "declaracion de renta" or equivalent which you will already have given that information to the school. Definitely worth enquiring about.

The Heat & Food Going Off
Its that time of year you cannot leave anything out or just have to taste or smell everything before eating or drinking.
The other afternoon my daughter got a batido de chocolate - she loves them, but said mummy, I dont fancy this and threw it away. I went to put the carton in the bin and got awful whiff of off milk. They arent even in the fridge in Mercadona. The date was August.
So even if things are in date, just check before you scoff it down. Especially Seafood & Soft Cheeses.

Plastic Surgery in Marbella - False Doctors in Marbella
I know I have written about this before, but I just want people to remember this and think long and hard before having plastic surgery abroad. When the exchange rate was 1.5 - 1 cosmetic surgery was a hell of a lot cheaper, but now, is it really that much cheaper? Especially by the time you have paid for flights, booked accommodation near the hospitals
Im not saying dont have it done, if you truly unhappy with something and you honestly think surgery will make you happy then go ahead. But do your homework before you come and when you are here.
Im shocked at the stories I hear here, but not only hear - things I have seen. I have seen the "So-called Face Peel" that will make you look half your age....Ive seen it cocked up and skin left red raw with terrible pigmentation - great no wrinkles but terrible painful sensitive skin and thats a year and a half later. Ive seen the depression set in afterwards because of all the money spent, all the drugs and the feeling of looking and feeling terrible.
Anyone can set up a website, anyone can buy a lovely looking shop front, anyone can have stunning articles in the top papers and magazines - dont be fooled - there are fake doctors out there.
Ask questions, ask to see qualifications, ask for references, get full names of doctors and do searches on the internet. Ask people if they have heard anything. Keep every single bit of paperwork you ever have when dealing with cosmetic surgery and notes - you may well need them!

Marbella Design School - Graphic Design, Fashion Design & More Art Courses in Marbella Spain

Today we took a drive up to Monda to have a look at the Marbella Design School. They used to be in Marbella and now have a brand new building in Monda.
It took a while to find it as it wasnt listed in Sat Nav and we forgot to print off directions, but once we got there, its pretty simple.
As we parked up and walked towards the building, we were already saying "Wow, this is amazing" and as you go inside, it just gets better and better.
Marbella Design School offer a range of courses all taught in English including Interior and Furniture Design, Marbella, Fashion Design in Marbella, Graphic Design in Marbella, Digital Film & Television Course in Marbella & Web Design in Marbella. The whole place is just incredible.
We had a long chat with Helle who is the Director of Marbella Design School. Helle was a joy to talk to. Shes a fantastic lady who really knows her stuff about design and cares so much about her school and her students doing well. Shes talks about them with the highest respect and is so proud of what they have acheived.
But they couldnt acheieve it without Helle and her staff and all the completely up to date technology that they use. They even have their own cinema and restaurant.
As a took trip to the loo I came across a room which I could have sat in all day - a room full of fabrics, patterns, sewing machines for Fashion Design...once upon a time, many years ago I was going to be a fashion designer!
The whole place is incredible. Many parents send their kids back to the UK to study, or sometimes the whole family go back - mainly because of the language barrier, but if you can afford it, this really is a great solution for families with kids whose only barrier is the language. They have students from over 33 countries and its all taught in English.
After walking around Marbella Design School, it really makes you want to go back to school and learn. Its just a 10 minute drive from La Canada.
