Sharks in Marbella Seas - Shark in Elviria Beach

Well what a bit of excitement today!

We went to our new favourite bit of beach in Elviria, near Bonos. I dont particurarly like beaches here but this bit of beach is great. The other day we went and it was completely flat calm. Today there were some great waves. Its also really shallow with sandbanks quite far out so great for the kids.

But today came along a guy on a speed bike and another boat telling everyone to get out of the water. My husband said its probably Jelly Fish then joked and said maybe a shark.

Well me being me I went to ask whats up and this old guy said "Tiburon".....SHARK.

OMG I thought, we were just all in there. Everyone was told to get out and they were being quite strict, but then you still had idiots going back into the waters with their little kids.

Well, after that I couldnt go back in. We walked up and down the beach for a while, in the kind of hope of seeing the shark, but nothing. In the end we decided to leave as noone was allowed back in.

As we drove along the n340 back home, we could see that even up to Funny Beach they had stopped people going in.

So that was my little bit of excitement today - not too sure what the outcome was, so if anyone does know, just leave a comment.

Just found this article written this evening by Typically Spanish http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publish/article_22876.shtml about the sharks seen in Bahia de Marbella

Novellis Puerto Banus - Reviews of Novellis Puerto Banus

Read My review here

Novellis Puerto Banus has now been open a while. Up until now I havent had anyone say its "Amazing or Absolutely Fantastic".

The main thing has been the atmosphere - being the lack of it.

But lately we´ve met a couple of people that have been and thought the food, service and price was all very good.

Nice to hear some good things finally.

I still havent been but hopefully will be going in the next couple of weeks to give it my own true review as always.

New Plaza Mayor Malaga

Yesterday we went to see the New Plaza Mayor Shopping Centre Extension at Malaga as we had to go to the airport anyway.

I was very very impressed. Lots more shops than I thought and really nice to be in the open air yet free from cars.

Esprit, Zara, Mothercare, Mayoral, Hennes, loads of shops and a large Mercadona too.

I will post some photos soon

Then went to Ikea, only went to get 2 10€uros lamps - ended up with a trolly full of stuff amounting to 169€uros!!!

Ear Piercing Marbella - Claires Accessories

Yesterday passing Claires Accessories, my daugther once again asked for her ears to be pearced.

I normally shrug it off and say when you are a bit older, but for some reason my husband decided to look more into it and said ok, lets get it done.

We went into Claires and the lady was really really nice - and said it doesnt hurt....me, I felt sick at the thought of it but our little girl was certain she wanted it done.

So she chose some cute little pink stone earrings and sat in the chair. The lady from Claires was on her own so was serving too. But she took alot of time cleaning her hands and work surface with disinfectant to prepare for the ear piercing...we were very impressed.

She marked the ears and really took her time to get them equal. The first one done....hurt a little....my lilttle girl didnt want to cry but I knew it hurt. I still felt rather ill.

Then its the 2nd one....ouch she moved quite a bit, really thought that maybe its gone horribly wrong for a split second...but the lady was very good and all was fine.

Had to sign paper with her details on, and lots of instructions on what to do and how to keep clean.

My little girl was the happiest little girl in the world yesterday as she has wanted her ears pierced for nearly 3 years now - shes only 5.5 now!

But would definately give 10 out of 10 for the professionalism and service that this lady gave.

This was at Claires in Plaza Mayor Malaga.

18€uros for the earrings, peircing and also the bottle of liquid to clean the ears with.

Speaking Spanish Really does improve your life.

As many of you know we finally moved out of Nueva Andalucia in March to Nagueles. Mainly because we out grew our apartment and also wanted somewhere more residential.

We´ve been here nearly 7 years now and whilst Summer was always quite good fun with all the kids that came each year and catching up with all the other owners that became our friends and seeing their kids grow up, there were too many negatives, like the fights for sunbeds, being woken up every night because of groups, drunks, parties etc etc.

This summer has been different. SO different and enjoyable that Im happy not going away at all next summer.

We are on a small urbanisation but where there are many children that live here - this makes a huge difference. Its fantastic that you go to the pool and theres nearly always someone to play with.

We are mixing with people that we just wouldnt have met or become friends with in Nueva Andalucia.

We had the most wonderful evening the other night with a family on holiday here from Madrid. My daughter became best friends with their little girl and the older sister treated my daughter like a her own sister. It was just wonderful. We went to their house at 9pm and didnt leave till 3am, with all the kids. For 6 hours our kids just played having such fun whilst we relaxed chatting in a mix of Spanish & English whilst the teenage boys did the barbecue, and what a fab bbq it was. These kids were the most wonderful, caring, mature kids I have ever met.

In nearly 3 months of summer we havent been to Puerto Banus in the Evening as a family once. Normally we are out, walking around the tents, but because we are enjoying where we live so much, we dont have the need to go out so much anymore.

I have learnt that being able to speak Spanish really does make a huge difference to your life. Its lovely seeing how other cultures do things and lovely when actually you realise we are all the same - mainly just wanting the best for our kids.

Had I not have been able to speak Spanish and communicate we would have missed out on some fantastic nights out this summer.

Ive also learnt that some English People can come across rude to the Spanish - this is mainly when the English people speak NO Spanish at all, some dont want to get eye contact because they dont want to engage in conversation because they cant speak a word of Spanish.

But trust me, just an Hola, Buenas Dias can go a very long way.

Mini Me San Pedro, Trendy Kids Clothes in Marbella

After Mc Donalds yesterday I got attracted to the 70% discount sign in MiniMe kids clothes shop.

As you walk in there is a wonderful aquarium on the wall which keeps the kids entertained whilst having their hair cut.

Im not into the whole designer stuff for kids, I normally pick up a some Ralph Lauren Jeans once they have gone really really cheap in El Corte Ingles and then its Hennes & Zara.

But, when you see some of these clothes, they really are just gorgeous and fit amazingly. Unfortunatley they didnt have my daughters size in what I liked. Shes only five and a half, but around top area shes quite chunky (well more than she looks), Dresses age six I could barely do up. A pair of jeans age 7 were tight around her legs - but they were so cute and looked amazing.

They have some great discounts on shoes at the moment and picked up a pair of Pink Diesel canvass boots for about 14€uros. Also some black shoes for school which were 105€uros reduced to 50€. I spent 55 on start right ones last year and in El Corte Ingles you cant get a pair under 40€. The ones I bought are Pom Dápi or something like that - not the most attractive but made really well and leather inside and out.

Ladies serving where really nice too, helpful, not too pushy which is what you want in a small shop like this.

Sale ends next week I think so if you want to pick up some bargains go quickly.

They sell Nolita, Guess, Pom Dápi, Birkies, Diesel and lots more brands.

Update....I recently went back to Mini Mi. Bought a couple of items that were no good when we got home. I ask for a refund and was refused. I could only exchange. Its such a shame these little shops dont give refunds, even only within 7 days. I think they would really increase business. Because my daugher hates shopping I normally go to Zara & Hennes, buy a whole load of stuff, bring it home for her to try on and take back whats not good or too small. I also always pay in cash as getting things back on the Card is a hassle.

Mc Donalds San Pedro - Kids Birthday Parties Marbella

Yesterday I met a mum at McDonalds in San Pedro. I dont normally go to McDonalds but having been in my house for weeks and by the pool, it was quite nice to get out. Big kids play area keeps kids occupied too.

It was nice until some rather horrible kids turned up punching, swearing and being well just rather disgusting - have no idea where the parents were.

It has a whole separate building for kids parties, Ive been to a couple of parties here , 1 was ok, the other was a bit manic, but if you are thinking about kids parties and dont want to splash out a fortune, this is an option!

Where to buy Mobile Phones Marbella

A few weeks ago my phone decided to break. I think it might have been the cup of water my daughter had spilt over it.

So I rummaged through our drawer full of old phones and chargers and found another old thing to use.

Then I remember seeing the receipt for the phone somewhere, but knew I was out of contract the 12 month period but didnt know if that was also related to the guarantee of the actual phone.

I bought it from El Corte Ingles - had Movistar points and changed them in for a newer phone. When you take the points you then have to have another contract for 12 months.

So I took my phone and receipt along to the Phone Doctor on the second floor. I waited for ages and ages. Finally I got seen and he didnt even need my receipt. He had all the information on the computer from the code on my phone.

I have a 2 year guarantee! So I still have about 6 months left on it should it go wrong.

Straight away he said "humeda" which is water. These guys are amazing.

So I would definately recommend buying phones from El Corte Ingles - they give guarantees and have it listed so if you loose the receipt it doesnt matter.

La Moraga Puerto Banus - New Tapas Restaurant Puerto Banus

Update - MY PERSONAL REVIEW OF LA MORAGA PUERTO BANUS. We went tonight and am very very pleased to say that the food and experience was absolutely fantastic. They seem to put English Speaking to the left and Spanish to the right - that way you get English Speaking Waiter / waitress. Restaurant design is beautiful and I love the way you see the chefs preparing the food. We were told about 4 or 5 dishes between 2 would be sufficient. We ordered Cod Fritters - these were absolutely amazing. Flavour was fantastic and they just melted in the mouth. Mini Ox Burger , lamb, mozzarella & tomato salad with pesto - incredible flavours. For dessert was a very very creamy dessert flavoured with Baileys and Banana - once again it didnt dissapoint. The only thing I didnt go mad on was the russian salad but absolutely everything else left my mouth watering. The flavours, textures were perfect. 6 dishes, 2 gin & tonics, glass of wine, water & dessert 60€. If you say 60€ for tapas for 2 it seems expensive but we ate alot and can honestly say it was the most incredible tasting food I have experienced in a long time.

Ok, So La Moraga is the name of the new restaurant in Puerto Banus opposite El Corte Ingles.

It look incredible, probably the best looking restaurant in Puerto Banus. I passed by today, they werent open but there were people cooking and tasting and a man who laid the tables out so beautifully but kept checking that every single thing was inline....almost a bit too much.

Couldnt see a menu, dont even know if its open yet, but if not it looked like tonight was going to be a big night.

If you go or have been please let me know what you think.

Oh and by the way, I have heard some really positive things about Novellis lately!

Parking Ticket Machine El Corte Ingles

The ticket machines are always broken in El Corte Ingles....I want to know what you do...

Do you

a) Find another machine that works.

b) Take your ticket inside to the customer service.

c) Just drive out and hope the barrier is open or just press the button.

What do I do? I drive to the barrier, press the button and must of the time they just open it up.
Occassionally someone talks to me and says "Si"....I just say No Funciona! And they let me through.

Today I saved 4.15€uros!

Mobile Phone Companies in Spain - Whos the Best

So yesterday we took some time out to have a look around all the mobile phone shops to see if we can get our phones bills down.

We are with Movistar who everyone says is the most expensive....its not cheap but what many of them forget to say is that everyone charges connection fee - yet many dont show that very clearly in their great offers.

Went to Orange - was very close to changing as you can get a free blackberry etc. There was an offer of 30€uros per month including loads of calls - sounds great. But then I read the small print and it said something about minimum consumption 12€uros. So I asked the girl and she said yes, 42€uros - so how do they get away with advertising 30€uros.

So thats 42€uros plus IVA before I start. Then if I make any international calls on top or calls out of the hours given, then I have to pay even more on top.

Vodafone - well they have a great offer if you speak alot, pay for 1 minute speak for 90...but you have to pay 20€uros per month before you start.

At the moment Im with Movistar - have to pay 9€ minimum then calls ontop. Not cheap but I dont have the bigger outlay to start with.

So after hours and hours of reading, looking talking we realise that actually all phone companies are crap, noone is happy with theirs and actually Movistar arent that much more expensive, its just how they set out their tariffs. Pay 9€uros min plus calls ontop. Or pay 30 40 or 50€uros get free calls included - its much of a muchness.

However, finally got through to movistar - for 1€ all bills will now come in English and when I call 609 I will be put through to English straight away.

I even called yesterday to say Im cancellling my line - in the hope that they will offer me new phones - but no!

But can I really be arsed to go from the fat in to the fire? No.

Mamma Mia Show Malaga - Mamma Mia Abba Concert Malaga

Very excited as today I thought Id check up on Teatro Cervantes where we went a couple of weeks ago to see the Motown Concert - well today I saw that in October / November they have a Mamma Mia Show with all the Abba Songs.

i booked tickets today but as I wanted the weekend, many of the tickets have sold out. It was really hard getting good seats for 3 of us, so I just bought whatever they had which happened to be the cheapest ones - so lets see.

My little girl absolutely loves Mamma Mia and I bought her the DVD the other day and it was the best value dvd Ive ever bought. She has watched it every day, well I have to. Its such a great film and the music is just fantastic.

Hypercor Puerto Banus

Watch your bill in Hypercor.

Today for some reason I thought Id just get some stuff from Hypercor. Bought 2x6 of water and few other bits. Water was 24cents each, the cheapest.

At the till, I noticed 7€ come up but thought that was for the steak, bill came to 50euros. I asked her to check the price of the water and she said 7.20€uros....so I told her I think thats wrong, its 12 x 24cents. So she changed it to 2.88€ thats a big difference.

Id already left the counter when I realised that 2 other things that was buy 1 get 2nd half price didnt come up on the till.

So do keep track of what you are buying espcially when only buying 2 or 3 items the same cause of the offers.

Marbella to Portugal - vale do lobo

So our summer holiday has been and gone. We drove to Portugal towards Jerez, Seville, Huelva etc. It takes around 4.5 hours comfortably.

Driving through Seville is really busy at the moment.

We stayed in a Place Called Barringtons in Vale Do Lobo. Its a kind of Sports Resort with Hotel and Apartments. Our room was lovely and big enough for 3 of us easily. They also have apartments too if you didnt want to stay in the hotel part. They have a little bar by the pool where you can order sandwiches and salads so we just put it on the room. We really expected it to be quite a lot by the end of the holiday but it wasnt. Everything was pretty good price, 4€uros 6€uros etc for salads or burgers, so that part is really good value.

There was a gym, loads of aerobic classes, sports and stuff going on everyday. They have alot of footballers stay there for training. Whilst we were there the Scottish Paralympics were there too playing football. Vale Do Lobo is very popular with all the footballers. This year we saw Nicky Butt as we did 2 years ago, Alan Shearer was there and many others.

Im also very certain I saw Coleen Rooney Eating in Amore in at the Praca in Vale Do Lobo too.

The Praça is the main part where all the restaurants and bars are. Everynight they have a singer or band which is lovely whilst you are eating and all the kids dance around.

Its a really nice atmosphere. We didnt really do much apart from eat, sit by the pool and go to the beaches where are fantastic. I know its not disimilar to what I do here but you do still need to get away completely.

Unfortunately half way through our car got broken into....there was nothing on show but they stole a nubmer of items nintendo ds and all the games, sunglasses, ipod, beach bag with all or bikinis etc. This really put a downer on things and we couldnt even get the window fixed. Its still broken now as Ford dont have a one and need to order it.

But apart from that we have some excellent nights out with family there.

New Restaurant Puerto Banus

The new restaurant that is opening in Puerto Banus opposite El Corte Ingles where Andalucian Dream Homes is - LOOKS AMAZING.

Its not quite finished yet, but nearly and it really looks fantastic with a wide glass fronted kitchen so you can see all the food being made.

It didnt have a pen on me to write the name down but its called amorlagona or something similar. If you know, please email.

Rumours are its to do with Danny Garcia a famous Spanish Chef.

Katie Price at Malaga Airport - Katie Price in Marbella

Katie Price has apparently today come through Malaga Airport

http://www.prphotos.com/store/category.cgi?category=search&query=%5Eevents.sql&q2=Katie%20Price%20Arrives%20at%20Malaga%20Airport%20in%20Spain%20on%20August%202%2C%202009 can see photos here.

Where she going? Marbella for a Holiday or more plastic surgery?

Anyone know?

Car Insurance in Spain & Home Insurance in Spain

Our car got broken into whilst we were on holiday in Portugal.

Over 1,000€uros worth of stuff stolen, plus the window, time etc etc.

Thought on the good side the we were all ok and that we will be covered if not on car insurance on our home insurance.

So today all I have done is try and sort it out and found out today that neither car Linea Directa nor Ocasa Home Insurance will cover us.

So Im wondering what do they actually cover for and whats the point of it.

Read your policies and think of all the possible scenarios and ask direct questions to your insurer.

If you have a good insurer please do let me know.
