Wedding Cars Marbella - Costa Cadillac

I was contacted the other day by Marlene who runs Costa Cadillac. Great to know as I get many questions about weddings and wedding car hire in Marbella. This is what she has to say...

"Recreate the very special mood of the 1950, when the American dream was at its highest, when Marilyn Monroe dominated all movie screens and when the car industry celebrated a true revolution in its technology and exuberant design!

We offer you an original 1957 Cadillac for your celebration, for advertising campaingns, photo shootings, film or TV productions, promotional events... It is a very special and unique feature on the Costa del sol, which will guarantee a special celebration with a vintage atmosphere and unforgattable recordings."

Can I bring Meat from Ireland to Malaga?

Hi Jo
Hope you dont me emailing you with this enquiry. We are going to Calahonda for short break soon and wondered are we allowed to bring Irish meat into the country from ireland. We are allowed to leave Ireland with it but wanted to check with Spanish laws about bringing into their country.
We have a young child travelling with us and wondered is it possible to hire a stroller when we get there.
I would appreciate your advice on this .
Thank you so much
B

Hi B

Im not too sure on the meat...ill post it up on the blog and see if anyone else knows. Although I know my friends bring meat back from UK.

Re Stroller....The only place I knew closed down. To be honest, the price it costs to rent, you could just go to Alcampo La Canada and pick one up for about 30€uros.

Skate Park at Myramar - New Park In La Cala

hi jo

just wondered if you could help me out with a couple of things. firstly, they are making a skate park outside myramar, do you know when it's due for completion?

secondly, they are building a park in la cala, next to the post office, can you let me know when that is due for completion and what it is they are planning building at the park?

many thanks

If anyone knows please leave a comment or email in.

Marbella to Teatro Cervantes Malaga

Each time we go to Malaga we always get a little lost so Im actually kind of doing these directions for me so I always know where they are.

Basically Teatro Cervantes if really close to Gibralfaro in Malaga.

Stay on the N340 and go passed the exit for Airport, passed Carrefour. I think its exit 236 you come off at. But you dont want the first exit off to the right, you want the second to Avenida de Andalucia. Continue to drive down this main road and stay in the middle to the left hand side as on 2 occassions the road splits and you want to be on the left. At the end of Avenida de Andalucia, at the round about near Gibrafaro take the 3rd exit towards the Cliff, through the tunnel and park up in Alcazaba. Then as you exit the car park walk down the road (away from Gibralfaro) then you come to a square - go diagonal through this square and its close by here.

Mayumana - Is it for kids?

Saturday - what an awful day, raining all day. We had tickets for Mayumana in the evening at 8pm and I wasnt looking forward to the drive up to Malaga on that road.

We got there about 7.15 to Teatro Cervantes, queued up to give my credit card to get my tickets.

It started at 8pm....it went dark and then kind of stayed that way for 5 minutes...technical hitch! Not great with a 5 year old. Constantly saying whens it going to start whens it going to start.

Finally it started and WOW!

There were I think 11 people altogether in this show, it was just AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, EXCITING, BREATHTAKING - everything great!

Its hard to explain but its singing and dancing but they bang on boxes, sticks, even make tunes out of water. They get the audience really involved in clapping and singing or even beat boxing in a couple of cases.

They even filmed some of the audience doing this and at the end had made a video of them all...it was brilliant.

I was worried that it wasnt for children as I booked my little girl 5.5 years a ticket, but it was fine for her. She a loved it too and was clapping away and laughing too. She loved it and still talking about the show.

If it comes to a theatre near you and you havent seen it - go!

Ive Done La Trocha Car Boot Sale - what to expect

Ok, so I was going to do the Car Boot Sale at Benahavis on Sunday....I woke up and it was raining. I was up at 6.30am, my daughter and husband were still fast asleep. On the Saturday afternoon I had packed up my car to the top in the hope of finally doing a car boot sale. This was the closest I have got and its sodding raining. Husband being his normal realistic self kept saying...Jo, its going to rain...we cannot do this in the rain...but me being me...I didnt listen :)

I got a bee in my bonet and once the dog got up everyone was up we decided we´d go to Coin as it was undercover.

We left a little late infact alot later than we should have about 745am. Its quite alot further than I realised and probably spent 20euros in fuel.

We took 2 cars as I couldnt fit anyone else in mine. Got to Coin La Trocha Car Boot. Enter the car park just before the petrol station. Queue up until someone tells you where to go. We got there late so had one of the worst pitches at the end...our own fault. So you take your car in, empty it out and then have to go and park it....SO YOU CANNOT DO THIS ON YOUR OWN!!!

As soon as you park you are hounded by loads of Moroccan men, going in your boxes, car all over. How much they say - you say 10€uros they say 1€! But you have so many around you its rather intimidating. You havent even got your stuff ready yet. Then they all ask quietly "Tienes Moviles" "Tienes Moviles"....All day long all they want is Mobiles - Anyone know why?

So they try neg you down and even when you have settled a price - watch out....when some of them come to give you the money, they dont give you all of it. So then you stand there quibblilng over a few euros whilst one of their friends is probably taking something from your stall.

In just a few minutes of opening the guy to our left had a crash helmet knicked and they people to our right got 30€uros stolen from their pocket. Its rather seedy if Im honest....but then the fun started.

Finally set up, most of the good things had gone pretty early, and at cheap prices as I was a little unorganised and it was hectic as I was on my own, then also keeping a close eye on my daughter ...but I got rid of it. Mind Alan Sugar wouldnt be impressed as anyone can sell anything at a loss!

If you have electrical things get them out first and they will sell...but its up to you if you hold a high price...you may not get a chance to sell again. We had a pile of plates and bowls....at the begning someone offered 3€uros for the whole lot...i said no and had to bring them back home.

English People were far the easiest to deal with and I ended up throwing a few extra things in their bags. Quite a few Dutch people too which were great to deal with. There was one Spanish woman who had a habit of just taking things of my table and putting them straight into her trolley then offering me what she thought and then lying about what she took...think her and her husband were a bit of a double act - him keep asking me questions and keeping me off the scent whilst I see her hand sneeking up on the table then down in her trolley.

So here are a few very important tips.

1) YOU CANNOT DO THIS ALONE AS YOU NEED TO GO AND PARK YOUR CAR AFTERWARDS ONCE YOU HAVE SET UP.

2) TAKE A BODY BAG OR BUM BAG AND KEEP EVERYTHING TIGHT TO YOU AT ALL TIMES.

3) DONT HAVE MONEY IN YOUR POCKETS.

4) DONT TAKE ANYTHING UNECESSARY - IPODS, NINTENDOS, WALLETS WITH CREDIT CARDS IN - YOU JUST NEED 20€UROS FOR YOUR PITCH, SOME CHANGE AND A BIT EXTRA FOR TEA / COFFEE.

5) THE BIG THINGS YOU HAVE PRICE UP FIRST AND PUT A PRICE ON AND MAKE IT CLEAR.

6) BE AWARE AT ALL TIMES...WHILST SOMEONE IS QUIBBLING OVER 50CENTS THEY ARE PROBABLY WITH SOMEONE ELSE WHO IS TAKING A FEW BITS.

7) EXPECT OTHER TRADERS FROM BETTER SITES TO COME OVER NEG YOU DOWN AND THEN RESELL THE ITEMS ON THEIR STALL.

8) HAVE FUN BUT TRUST NOONE!

I absolutely love car boot sales, I always have done, my husband says Im a complete sales woman. I was out there the other side of the stall selling for 4 hours solid. I knew more or less all the things I had, took loads of baby clothes and whenever someone came with a kid I asked what size and knew exactly what I had for them. Im in my element doing this.

So much so Ive found a whole load more rubbish and going to do another one.

20€uros per pitch, 5euros back at the end if your pitch is clean. Toilets are in the garage or upstairs in the shopping centre by the cinema.

Take change and plastic bags.

Apple I Touch Marbella

My husband just came back from the UK and bought another Gadget. Hes turned gadget mad. But his ipod did get stolen in Portugal and he did need one.

Anyway, as you may remember we were thinking about getting blackberrys, but to be honest the tariffs seemed so expensive and the thought of using it in the UK with the costs of Roaming...we decided against it.

I also decided that do I really need to be checking emails when out and about....no.

But he bought an Apple Touch....which has music, videos but also you can check your email and surf the internet too.....if you find wifi. If the wifi is free then you dont have to pay a thing for surfing the internet unless you pay for the wifi. Thats so much easier than all the different tariffs out there for Internet and the many horror stories I have heard of people leaving it on by accident whilst abroad...their bill have been hundreds.

This he bought in duty free for 199 pounds I think. I reakon that had we bought a phone with internet tariff we would have spent that in probably 2 months bills between us.

Im very impressed and I dont normally do gadgets.

So get a phone and if you need internet but dont want to chance the phone bills...get an Apple i Touch.

You can always buy it from here too through Marbella Mac Solutions

Over 50s Show Estepona - Palacio de Congresso

Over 50s Show Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th November - Palacio De Congresso Estepona.

Their Press Release

AMBITIOUS PLANS FOR THIS YEAR’S OVER 50’s SHOW

Following the huge successes of the 2007 and 2008 events, this year’s Over 50s Show, the lifestyle event for the Coast’s seniors, will according to the organisers, be the ‘biggest, best and most feature-packed yet’.

The event will again by held at the Palaccio de Congresos, Estepona on the last weekend of November (Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th) and will again be the ‘ultimate showcase’ for the region’s older people, with all the proven attractions as well as many new elements.

One of the new attractions will be the ‘active investment zone’ where visitors will be able to get impartial advice from experts on a plethora of investment opportunities.

And following requests from numerous visitors last year, there will also be a dedicated homes and gardens section. And plans are also in hand for an extensive involvement from Dunnes Stores., as well as a fashion show.

There will also be a programme of cookery demonstrations by some of the Coast’s top chefs. And outside an area will be earmarked for a farmers market.

Many of the free attractions from the first two shows will again be in the mix, including computer and Internet tuition, golf lessons from PGA professionals, pets advice, an art exhibition, consumer and legal advice, guidance on cosmetic procedures, health checks – including diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure monitoring. .

The Over 50s Show is described by the organisers as ‘the ultimate lifestyle event for the Coast seniors, which is entertaining, informative and educational’. Once again, admission and car-parking is free, as well as all presentations and tests. They also add that the event offers the over-50s ‘a one-stop shop’ to get information on their physical and financial health as well as enjoy many of their interests and hobbies, not to mention an excellent opportunity to meet-up with their peers from all over the Coast and beyond.

Health and well-being
Health and well being will be a key element of the event based on the well-proven premise that exercise, sensible diet, and regular, routine monitoring slows down the age process.
Visitors can have their cholesterol measured, as well as availing of blood pressure and blood glucose tests; spine monitoring and bone density screening will also be available, backed by information on treating arthritic joints and knee pain. And there will also be the opportunity of joining in yoga and aerobic classes. Data on dieting and maintaining a healthy weight will be included, not to mention the latest trends in ‘aquacise’ (exercising in water to you). And for those trying to stop smoking, help and assistance will be on hand by a successfully acknowledged therapist, who will also be dispensing advise on sensible eating and cooking and how to overcome weight-inducing ‘comfort eating’.

The inaugural Over 50s Show attracted over 70 exhibitors, last year’s it had over 80 exhibitors, and the organisers say they are on target for 100 exhibitors this year.

If you are interested in exhibiting at The Over 50s Show, you can get details by contacting the organisers at 902 003896.

Uggs in Puerto Banus - Uggs El Corte Ingles

For all you Ugg lovers out there, El Corte Ingles now sell a few styles and colours. They have tall short and cardigan ones.

Short ones I think were 169 or 189€uros.

I went mad for Uggs and only got my first pair last year - I bought them in London. To be honest though - I wish I never wasted the money on them. They are rather ugly, get dirty quickly and not that great for your feet.

If I wear them every day in the winter I always get bad back.

But thought this would be useful for those that continue to buy them year in year out and for first timers like me.

UK Criminals wanted in Spain

We all know that Costa del Sols name is Costa del Crime. Its full of nogoodens, always has been. But when you read about these people who are known rapists and murderers that are known to be living here amongst us I felt the need to write about it and give you all the website to look at.

There are photos of the 10 most wanted UK Criminals in Spain.

I always find it ridiculous in UK when they cant post a picture of a criminal because of his rights.

Living here does make you cautious. A few years ago we knew someone who we met at parties and was a friend of a friend. Really nice guy. Then one day there was a massive police operation with loads of cars found stolen, money, drugs etc etc. Anyway, he ended up being part of this. He was a really lovely guy - you would never have thought it.

Please do take a look through the website and the photos.

Distilled water for babies in Spain

Hi Jo,
I have a question for you - Can you tell me what the specially distilled drinking water for babies is called? I understand it is available from pharmacies in Spain? Also Is Milupa Aptamil available from Supermarkets ?

I love your blog, have enjoyed reading them for a few years now, in between my trips to Marbella they keep me up to date with whats happening. I am heading to Marbella tomorrow it is my first time to bring my Baby so I have been searching your blog for differnt tips regarding babies/toddlers in Spain.

I read your post on La Canada - As far as I know Dunnes & Primark are not owned by the same company

Thanks & regards,

E

Hi Emer, Im not too sure about the water. I have seen Milupa in the chemists Im sure. The one by mercadona in nueva andlauica is pretty good. I will post your question up and hopefully someone will come back to me.

La Cañada Marbella

I had to pick a few things up from La Cañada Yesterday and couldnt beleive how dead it was. Even Hennes that always has a queue - didnt. The place was DEAD.

Some shops had sales, shoe shops had up to 50% off. Baileys is opening just down from Mango on the opposite side.

Marks & Spencers have their big sign up and just taken over my new favourite shop Fridays Project - typical - I find a shop I like and it closes! Aparently going to open by November!

I had heard that Dunnes is opening where Imperial used to be. So many people have been telling me - their friends that work at La Cañada. But today being me, I contacted Dunnes Directly and they say they have NO plans to open.

So who is it going to be? Primark or another Spanish Shop to do with Zara Brand?

Is it true the Primark and Dunnes are owned by the same people? Anyone know.

Zara Puerto Banus Closed

I noticed the other day a huge "Disponible" sign over the windows of the big Zara on the corner in Puerto Banus opposite El Corte Ingles.

It never really made sense them taking that when they have a store in Marina Banus.

That part of Puerto Banus is really funny...all the shops close down at the same time and new ones reopen.

Dr A M The Moulding Clinic Marbella

Today Dr A M who performed liposuction at the Moulding Clinic Marbella was jailed for 1 year.
Back in 2005 the first lady from Nigeria, Stella Obasanjo went to The Moulding Clinic for liposuction and fell very ill the next day.

The Moulding Clinic maybe the only plastic surgery clinic so far in Marbella where a patient has actually died, but they are not alone when it comes to carelessness. A number of other clinics have had false doctors working for them and numerous complaints about them.

Once again, as I always always say, check check and check again. People that have had surgery done by the doctor themselves. Dont just read their wonderful websites and their adverts in the glossy magazines - anyone can pay for this to be done.

You can read more about it on the BBC Website here

Rastro Benahavis - Car Boot Sale Benahavis Sundays

Theres a new Rastro in Benahavis - Market / Car Boot Sale in Benahavis.

We got there about 11.30am this morning to have a nose around as I want to do one next week. You have proper car booter selling all their old crap and then people with proper jewellery and fabrics etc. So a real mix.

There were quite a few pitches there and a few people looking around. Because its new not many people know about it I guess. But hopefully will be busy in the next few weeks.

I found the guy that ran it and its only 6€uros a pitch. People can come and buy between 10 and 2. You need to get there to set up before 830am he said.

Theres also La Trocha Coin Car Boot Sale and Sabanillas Car Boot Sale

La Trocha Coin Sunday Car Boot Sale - Car Boot Sale Coin

As Im desperate to get rid of a few bits and it would be nice to get a little bit of cash for, today we went to see a couple of car Boot Sales.

First we went to the new car boot sale in Benahavis which I just heard about and then took a drive to La Trocha Coin Car Boot Sale to have a look.

We´ve only been to Coin once and cant say I particularly liked it. But after a few minutes of driving around we finally found La Trocha Centre where the car boot sale is.

Its in the underground car park and its huge. Really big lots of stalls. All different bits and peices.

I found a stall where I bought a pooper scooper and the lady had 2 massive Great Dane Dogs...there were amazing, the most beautiful big dogs I have ever seen, they were so placid especially with my little Charlie (pug). It was like an ant compared to them.

Anyway I then found out that this woman was the one who ran the car boot sale and basically she said that if you want a pitch get there before 8am. For the next couple of week the Torremolinos Car boot Sale is closed so everyones coming to Coin.

Queue up and you will get a pitch. 15euros per pitch plus 5 deposit which you get back at the end if your area is clean.

it was quite funny that the English People were in charge of such a big thing.

Big car boot sale, lots of space. Undercover so didnt matter about what weather is like - but was a big dark to be honest.

It would be a good one to do.

Car Boot Sales Marbella - Marbella Car Boot Sales

In the UK I used to love doing a car boot sale. It was easy, knew what to do, where to go and how much everything was etc.

But here in nearly 7 Years I havent got round to doing one, althought Ive always got a "carboot sale" pile somewhere in my house and end up giving it to charity.

But im definately going to do one either next sunday or the following.

There are 3 now that I have been to see for myself.

Sabanillas Car Boot Sale / Sabanillas Market Sunday

La Troncha Coin Car Boot Sale - Car Boot Sale in Coin

Benahavis Car Boot Sale - Rastro Benahavis

Think it will be one of the last 2 as Sabanillas I have heard you have to get up really early.

Law for dogs in Cars in Spain - Dogs in Cars in Spain law

Not to sure if many people know this but after we took our Charlie to the vet the other day and I asked "where the best place for him to sit in the car?" I was told that by law dogs MUST either be in the boot or on the back seat with a proper seat belt lead.

The lead can be bought in Pointers Nueva Andalucia and at 6.50€ its the cheapest one around I can find. El Corte Ingles had one for about 12€uros. Basically one clip fits straight into the seat belt hole and the other clips onto his lead or harness.

Apparently police are quite strict if they stop you.

IP Phones in Marbella - IP Phones in Spain

So first theres Estate Agents here in Marbella, then the market gets tough and they start selling property in Bulgaria & Morocco. Then that gets tough so some move on to Dubai or go back to the UK.

Now the latest thing here in Marbella is IP Phones......everyone seems to be doing IP Phones. So if someone suddenly contacts you and wants to take you out for a coffee...watch out they are probably going to explain to you how you can save loads of money and flog you this service.

Its unbeleivable here how everyone just does exactly the same thing, like the designer kids clothes shops, the dog accessory shops and then they all close down cause there just isnt enough people to keep it all going.

If you have got one of these IP Phones in Spain and happy with the service do let us know.

DeLonghi Steam Iron Hypercor

Ironing has never been so enjoyable.

Something good comes out of something bad - most of the time. The other day my iron packed up....another one.

Anyway I borrowed by neighbours which had a separate steam unit - it was fantastic.

So we went to Hypercor and found one similar.....Delonghi, with big steam unit separate, cost about 89€uros. I have just ironed loads of shirts and polo tops so well and so quickly its unbeleivable.

I dont particularly enjoy ironing, mainly because it never looks that great afterwards, but this iron is absolutely fantastic.

I find the model number for it and post it up....honestly, completely recommend it.

Casa Paloma Nueva Andalucia, Shooting Nueva Andalucia

News of yet another shooting in Nueva Andalucia. This time at a villa called Casa Paloma where a poker game was taking place.

Little Dogs in Spain

Ive never been one for little dogs if Im honest, Ive always had medium to big dogs when growing up.

Ive also never really understood completely about people that consider their animals as their children. Of Course I was always very upset when our dogs died when I was young.

Its been a week so far since we got Charlie, our little pug and hes really cute and lovable. Hes character is really coming out and he wants to play and is really curious about everything getting himself in all sorts of trouble and strange positions.

Sadly, Im finding I am picking him up quite alot and giving him cuddles, I never thought I would be like that, but small dogs are really very lovable.

I gave him a shower today for the 2nd time this week - I do have a thing about cleanliness.

So i feel Ive been converted to a small dog lover - I admit it! I absolutely love him and wish he could stay a puppy. Hopefully he wont change that much.

Hair, Nails & Pedicure Marbella

For nearly 3 months during the summer holidays, I didnt really pay any attention to myself. I walked around mostly bare foot every day, did the cleaning so my hands were in a complete mess and my hair, well in the chlorinated water everyday - oh what a picture.

Well with the kids back to school and getting back to normal I finally made time for myself. This week I had my hair all cut off and LOVE IT! Why I didnt get it done at the begining of the summer I dont know.

Then Joanna Hooper Marbella Mobile Beauty came round and I gave her the challenging job of sorting out my feet and hands....well she did an amazing job as always and Im pleased to say that even my manicure is still almost perfect! Joanna got some lovely dark colours in so Ive gone for a navy blue which is very dark but nice!

Like me, Joanna has thought of all the other mums out there that didnt have time during the summer and has some special offers find out more here http://nuevaandalucia.blogspot.com/2009/09/manicures-pedicures-facials-marbella.html

Iron Trips the Electric in Spain

Since we have lived here I have been through so many irons its unbeleivable.

My iron now which I can no longer use as every time I turn it on it trips all the electric in the house.

Ive just found the reciept and I paid 74€uros for it only 2 years ago 24th August 2006.

I also bought a kettle at the same time and funnily enough this didnt last long either and have since had to replace it.

Does anyone else have the same problems? Is it the water or something to do with the electricity as I have read here http://www.fixya.com/support/t2091903-iron_tripping_electric

I fed up wasting money, I remember people having irons for 20 & 30 years!

Malaga to Marrakesh Flights - Marrakech to Malaga Flights

Im always asked if you can fly direct from Malaga to Marrakech.

The other day I saw a huge sign on the way to the airport, saying Malaga to Marrakech but forgot by the time I got home.

Anyway just found it and its Air Andalus - flight direct from Malaga to Marrakesh twice a week.

http://www.andalus.es/andalus/

What time does it get dark in September in Spain

July & August it didnt really get dark till about 9.45 / 10pm. Thats when it cools down a bit and then you can get ready with your hair and makeup to go out. Otherwise you just melt.

From Mid / Late August you really notice it getting dark a little earlier 9.15 / 9.30.

This year since it turned September its been hot and humid and really overcast, really feels summers out and Autumns on its way.

Lidl Marbella, Thursdays the Day!

So did the school run and went to Lidl Marbella this morning... Well wasnt I lucky as Thursday seemed to be "The Big Day" when all the offers came in.

It was packed. Foot Spas, Hair Dryers, Bath Robes, Towels, Bath Mats, Printers, Office Stuff, Pyjamas. What I find amazing was that 1 woman seemed to buy 1 of everything - did she really need all of the above - cause thats an amazing coincidence!

Anyway, Ive got it down to a fine art now - I used to be insuch a mess at the check out.

Now Ive learnt - leave water and huge stuff in the trolley. Take an Ikea bag and just shove everything in that ontop of all the big stuff.

I realised that even if they played a little music it would feel a lot better in there....its so dull and dumpy.

A thank you - Found Accommodation through Nueva Andalucia Life

Dear Jo,
I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out and introducing me to your friend Jamie. He has been very kind and helpful! I am now living in La Maestranza, very happy about that.
Thanks a lot!

Stine

Is Marbella Safe?

Dear Jo:
When I first saw your newsletter, I felt like there might be a friend whom we canask questions of. I love it!
My husband and I just booked a cruise and a timeshare trade in Spainfor next April/May (2010). Your recent blog newsletter and many warnings intravel guides about auto break-ins has us worried that maybe we made amistake coming to Spain. Previously, we have traveled to Menorca, and later toFuertaventura. In neither location were we concerned about break-ins. Also, threatsof pick pockets and purse snatchers.
Can you advise us the best way to minimize the threat of break-ins, that is arecertain types of automobile better suited than others to avoiding break-ins, canluggage hidden in the trunk (boot) be safe, etc.?
J

Dear JanIm so pleased you like the newsletter. Here is no different really to anywhere else. Where theres holiday makers theres people that are ready to rip them off....this is everywhere. I got ripped off the minute I landed in New York!
Its still safer here than say in London / UK!
There are break ins here - mainly big villas, then you have petty crime where someone just pops in where a door is open and takes whatever they can - depending on urbanisation how the gardens etc are situated.
Re Cars - dont leave anything on show and my advice now dont leave anything in there of value. OUr car just got broken into in Portugal in a very nice area....nothing on show but we did have over 1,000€uros worth of stuff stolen. Chancers - unemployment is very high - people desperate. Oh and house nor car insurance covered us!
Im hearing alot of bag thefts in car parks where one person distracts you and the other grabs your bag from the car - but this happens all over.
My advice - keep things simple, only carry what you need - keep keys and address separate, money away from credit cards, take a photocopy of every single card and passport. But I would do this in any country!
The main problem is that people come and they become too relaxed leave things lying around, dont double lock doors, dont close windows etc - so many a time its opportunists.
Its not that bad here honest, enjoy.

Jo

Moving to Nueva Andalucia - Help with Schools

Hi Jo, Hope you don't mind me emailing you. I got your deetails via Google. I am currently living in the UK and working as a local Government Officer and me and my Family are moving to Nueva Andalucia in October 2009. We have rented accommodation already organised but I was wondering if you could give me some advise on Schools, work etc. Looking forward to hearing from you in the hope that you can be of some help to me!! Regards K

Hi,It depends on budget. Theres state schools around - just 2 in Nueva Andalucia. YOu need to think about the age of children etc. Some people come and just litterally throw their kids in at the deep end in State School, some choose private international inc case things dont work out and can move back to the UK. Private schools arent cheap, you are looking around 2,500 per term more the older the child. Heres lots of information about schools I hope this helps. Regards joannewww.nuevaandalucia.blogspot.com

Cleaners Stealing in Marbella

A couple of weeks ago we were speaking to some friends about cleaners. They said they know alot of cleaners and know who steals what....some steal make up, some steal money, some steal other bits and bobs.

Well today I left out 5€uros in a mix of large coins at the top of a cup where I put all the small coins in.

I did this as I felt some money went missing last week - about 5 or 6 €uros in 1€uro coins.

Today my cleaner came and its gone. I felt I had to ask her and obviously she denied it.

There was one other person in my house before my cleaning girl came who did the windows and terraces. This cup is a long way from any windows. If it was this woman then shes very stupid and has a lot to loose.

So I WAS certain and now Im questioning myself.

I also feel rather sick as many times I was certain I left some change somewhere and it wasnt there....So someone has been helping themselves for a while.

I hate this feeling and I hate theives.

Better get my rubber gloves on guess!

Nurseries near Cancelada - Guaderia en Cancelada

What do you know about nurseries - in and around my area Cancelada. Im thinking about putting my daughter 1 year into something so she can learn to socialise and I can get some work done - just a few hours a day, few days a week. Any recommendations? Thanks, Kerri.

If anyone knows of nurseries around the Cancelada Area, please email in or post a comment.

Dunnes Marbella - Dunnes La Cañada Marbella

NB: After a number of other people told me about Dunnes I contacted them today - and unfortunately they told me they have NO plans to open in La Cañada - what a shame. Marbella is just fab for rumours they get round so quick!

First day back at school, tears tears tears, my little girl didnt want to go. To be honest, I didnt want her to go back either, we´ve had such a great time this summer. But now its is obligatory for her to go to school!

My neighbour just popped in to see Charlie, our new dog. Whilst chatting about shopping and LaCañada, Ive just found out that......DUNNES STORE is going in La Cañada!

Next to S´fera where Imperial used to be. Marks & Spencer is definately going upstairs near the bowling.

Thats great that Dunnes is coming to Marbella, Ive always been shocked that its not been here sooner.

Great for xmas presents and bits and bobs. Its always one of those shops that I come out spending a fortune though.

Pugs in Spain - Our new little boy

After many years of our daughter saying she wanted a dog and after lots of thought we are now the proud new parents of a Pug.

Our little girl has always wanted a dog and absolutely loves them. We also felt that whilst she is in school we are in routine - we have to be here to take her and collect here so its not like we are out of the house for hours on end.

We went to La Canada the other day and if my daughter has been a good girl we always go into see the animals.

Well as we entered this little Pug was running around the shop, cute as anything. We were in there ages playing with him. I have loved Pugs ever since Willie in Eastenders.

We left there with my daughter sobbing her eyes out..saying I want I want. She does absolutely love dogs and always has.

We spoke all evening about him as he was so cute. Yesterday morning my husband said lets go see him hadnt seen him before. We went and Pug was still there. He was full of character with a face just so cute. We bought him....the girls in there were really nice and very helpful. They gave us a bit of a discount and threw in a couple of bits for him too for free.

The 2nd girl in the shop couldnt say goodbye as she was too upset seeing him leave.

We drove back home and he was shaking like mad. Then he relaxed and had a good sniff around the house.

Yesterday he wouldnt drink or eat, but last night he slept the whole night through (snoring) and woke up this morning at 8am.

Today hes back to normal, ate all his breakfast and drunk loads.

Training is a little difficult, he had 1 little accident last night.

Today we gave him a shower being very careful not to get water in his ears...he seemed to enjoy it.

If anyone out there does have a pug and has any advice please do let me know.

Honestly have to say the staff in Animal World were very nice and really love all the animals in there. They even said I could drop him off for a hour or so if I need to go shopping.

My Review of Novellis Puerto Banus Marbella - Novelli Restaurant Puerto Banus

My husband treated me and my cousin to a night out and he surprised us with Novellis which we were both very happy with.

So we arrived at Locrimar Hotel where Novellis Puerto Banus is. We were greated very nicely and shown to our table outside.

There were a few other people also sitting outside, which was quite nice, but also a little strange as its right by the swimming pool.

Also as its a hotel, you have other guests and there was a group of youngish males all sitting just a little further away but in my view all with their baggy jeans so I had the lovely sight of their pants. This was a little weird as going to "Novellis" you feel it should be a little special.

Anyway, service was good and got seen straight away for drinks etc. The wind really started to get up and was a little uncomfortable so we decided to sit inside - as its Saturday Night I didnt want to be lumbered sitting outside as inside was full.

So we moved inside where there was one other table occupied.

For starters I had Foie Gras which I never eat. For Main Course I chose the Fillet Steak which had been poached for 50 minutes. Both courses were delicious and presented beautifully. My cousin very much enjoyed her goats cheese to start and had a fish dish to follow which she enjoyed but said was a little crunchy.

We were so busy talking that when we eventually stopped we realised we were the only ones inside the restaurant and there was no music. We both felt - "Theres no atmosphere"

We asked if music was possible like outside - but got told something about the speaker not working. Then we asked if possible to sit outside. We got told shouldnt be a problem - but then was told no - no tables by Head Waiter and Mátre d (novellis brother).

We felt rather disappointed as we were certain there was some space outside. Sitting inside we also picked up some of the "Waiter / Waitress" conversations about orders, people etc etc which wasnt great as we could hear every word as there was no music.

Eventually a lovely lady who did work there saw that we looked rather peed off and asked if we would like to sit outside....we said "Yes Please"....and funnily enough she came back to us with a choice of 2 tables in the bar area outside.

Then we were happy again and ready to order desert. We had to wait quite a while before a waiter came and then the lovely lady came to our rescue again. I said Ill have the Banana Tart Tatin - she told me it will be min 25 minutes - for me the fact that its so fresh, its worth the wait.

So we sat outside for another hour or so enjoying the coloured water fountain and music. The banana tart tatin was AMAZING!

We were both rather disappointed that neither Matre´d or other waiter came up to us to say anything about us being able to sit outside.

Had it not have been for the lady (big blond hair) we probably would have left there feeling rather peed off and deflated that they were so unaccommodating.

However - for

The Food I have to give 10 out of 10 - I thought it was very good.

Value for Money I was very happy, I was expecting it to come to around 175 - 200 and it came to 135€. That was for 3 courses each (2people) 3 glasses of wine, 2 gin & tonics and 2 bottles of water.

Atmosphere Many comments I have heard is about the atmosphere and I completely agree. Inside was empty and not good for a Saturday Night - there was no music and no atmosphere.

Decor
The restuarant inside is really nice and modern. There is a private room for up to 12 people and also a special tasting room in the kitchen which is around 120€uros per person.

During the day there is also food on the Sisu Menu by Novellis (I think)....now this menu was fantastic! I could eat every single thing on it, fish & chips, burgers, thai green curry, sandwiches, salads and all very good price. Infact I think the fish & chips was cheaper here in Novellis than Pegottys!

Final Thought - For some good food at a good price I will go back. The service could be better and like some other restaurants, waiters could mark who has ordered what so doesnt need to ask when serving. Also, as its a hotel too - expect other people to be around - not dressed up.

Will definately go back and try the day menu as all looks and sounds great at good price too and on Sundays they do a Barbecue which I have heard is fantastic!
