The Christmas party is being held in less than 2 weeks time on 8th December and this year more than ever, they really do need as much public awareness of the appeal as possible.

I have been newly appointed as the Press Officer of L.I.V.E. Costa del Sol branch and am still finding my feet - all tips, advice and feedback welcome!

If you need any more information or would like to arrange an interview, please do not hesitate to contact either myself on 616399382. Thank you in advance for your help. Kind regards, Nicola Erlich+34 616399382

ORPHANAGE CHRISTMAS GIFT APPEAL
L.I.V.E. Christmas appeal for Malaga Children’s Home – “La Cuidad de Los Ninos”
L.I.V.E is the local ex-pat charity supporting the Malaga Children’s Home “La Cuidad de los Ninos”.
Every year, the charity holds a Christmas party for nearly 200 children that the Children’s Home cares for.
This year's party is being held in Nerja on Tuesday 8th December.
The children of “La Cuidad de los Ninos” have been rescued by the local authority from terrible, inhumane depravation. There are more than 50 residents living in the Home run by Brother Juan. In addition, the Home provides a safe haven for food, clothing, warmth and schooling for a further 100+ children brought into the Home on a daily basis from the nearby poverty-stricken shanty town.

The children in the home range from aged 2 – 18.
WE NEED YOUR HELP…
We are asking for donations of gifts and presents for their Annual Christmas Party.
Please wrap each gift and clearly mark whether it is for a boy or a girl.
“These children have so very little of their own” says Brian Marsh, Chairman of L.I.V.E. “if the ex pat community can contribute something, anything, we can send a strong signal to these young boys and girls that despite the difficult financial times we find ourselves in someone still cares about them”.

As always throughout the year, we are also keen for donations of clothing, toiletries, food or money. The Home and the resident children are very much dependent on your donations.

Drop off points for donation of presents and other goods are
CURRENCIES DIRECT
Plaza de las Orquideas, Local 5,
Nueva Andalucia
METRO RESTAURANT in Puerto Banus
BLACK CAT BAR, Las Postas Commercial Centre, Calahonda
OFFEX, Marbella Business Centre, Elviria

Money donations can be made by visiting the L.I.V.E. website www.live-spain.org.
We would also like to take this opportunity to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated money, goods and time to L.I.V.E in 2009. Your efforts have made a huge difference to the children and are appreciated. Every little helps!
For further information, or if you have a fundraising event and would like to raise money for our appeal please contact Founder Brian Marsh on 620791441 or brian@eurohomes-spain.com or Chairman Keith Spitalnick 687417035 or keith.s@currenciesdirect.com

Somewhere to leave kids in Puert Banus - Creche in Puerto Banus

Just reading the Sur in English...I have never seen this paper so thin - theres hardly anything in it.

But they do have an article in there about El Corte Ingles opening a Kids Park in Marbella and also Mijas Costa. From 27th November until 5th January there are lots of fun activities to keep the kids amused. Its on the 4th floor in Marbella (i think the Puerto Banus One) and the 3rd floor in Mijas. They also say that the first hour is free if you buy something even if its only a newspaper or a packet of chewing gum.

Im not too sure now as its pretty quiet here with many people leaving but there was definately a call for a creche in La Cañada Shopping Centre.

Time Share Scam Marbella

So if to be ripped off once by these fake Timeshare people in Marbella / Spain isnt enough, they have been found to be doing a double whamey bamey by pretending to be solicitors and calling people that they ripped off to pretend to get their money back.

Just found this in Euro Weekly News and pleased to see that the scam has been busted and 22 people arrested.

Some friends of ours got ripped off and took their last 3,000 €uros. They also got my dad in a car from marbella to Puerto Banus and he actually said he felt threatened.

So if you did get ripped off the first time and suddenly you get a call from lawyers saying we will help you get your money back - its another scam.

Small Dog Trainer in Marbella

I didnt think we needed a dog trainer but think a few classes might not be such a bad thing as hes really starting to pull on the lead.

If anyone can recommend someone nice and good with little dogs and who doesnt cost a fortune, please let me know.

Thank Goodness for Neighbours

Where you live is so important.

In the morning I get everyone ready for school, make breakfast, sort out the bags and pack lunch for my husband so Im always in my Pjs, looking great!

My husband and little girl went for a quick walk with the dog just before school when my husband somehow slipped and dislicated his ankle (he has a weak one and has done this many times but not for a while).

The builders came running over to help and I suddenly heard my daughter shouting and it was all a panic.

My daughter really hates being late as its important to be on time with their teacher and I was nowhere near ready. I called one of my neighbours but her phone was switched off and then another came out who goes to the same school so she took my daughter.

Its like and adverture the kids going with their friends in the morning so she was happy.

But its so great to have great neighbours and that little bit of support which we dont get from Family not living here.

Pointer Vets Nueva Andalucia - spray to stop dog chewing

After dropping my dog off at VIP I popped into Pointer for some chews and spray to stop my dog chewing all my wires.

Its a bitter apple spray, you put a little in their mouth and then on the furniture of place they are chewing.

Whilst there it suddenly got really busy and people running in dropping their animals off in a rush shouting "Castration" - "Operation".

Honestly I felt so sorry for the girls working their....these people were disgusting. When the girls ask for peoples name - "oh you know me, been here years"...well Im sorry, if you pet is having an operation you can take some time to make sure they know exactly who you are.

Then they got confused and thought the dog was being castrated and the cat having the operation...if the dog was a boy and still had his bits he would have been in trouble as he wasnt for the castration.

The girls were lovely and explained to me all about Castration, Pet Passport and as Im writing this Ive had to call them again as my dog has been sick a few times today.

People say they are expensive, but you know what, they always fit you in and everything is explained so clearly.

VIP Pet Grooming Marbella

I dropped my little dog at VIP Pets in Centro Plaza this morning for a wash and clean.

They are really nice in there.

Anyway, dropped him off then about hour or so later called me to pick him up. Love it when he smells lovely and clean.

Price was 20€ including my VIP Membership Discount. Last time it was 15€ but couldnt be bothered to go into why the price was different.

All nice and clean though.

Studio B Hair & Beauty Centro Plaza, Nueva Andalucia

Been to Centro Plaza this morning and noticed that the big Hairdressers behind Starz on the left has changed its ownership again.

It started as Tredi (or something similar), then to Davis and now there is a sign saying under new management Studio B.

I understand that Studio B have another Salon in Elviria or Calahonda.

Your Health in Spain

With many people suffering at the moment or out of work, in some cases National Insurance hasnt been paid for quite a while or maybe never, or you have given up your Private Healthcare.... You really need to think whats going to happen if you are ill.

If you are ill, its awful, but how awful if you are ill and not too sure how or if you are covered by a NHS or Private System either here or in the UK.

There are many English People that are neither here nor there. What I mean by that are people that have come over and just do cash in hand jobs.

The Costa Del Sol Hospital is cracking down on people using their EHIC Card all the time. If you havent paid into the system - you may not get seen.

If you dont have Private Health Care either then you have a problem!

Many English People move countries because they were fed up with all "The Foreigners" using their benefits and health system - well dont YOU become "The Foreigner" here.

Many people have Helicopterous Santarious but personally for a bit more a month I think Private Health Care would be better. Helicopterous will come out to you in an emergency and treat you but if you need a scan or operation you will have to pay for that if you are not covered.

I have been shopping around and have found health care for as little as 40€uros per month.

40€uros per month on Private Health Care
or
4 drinks down Puerto Banus?
I know which one I would go for!

Why English Can Seem So Rude - Learn to Speak Spanish

An interesting thing happened to me yesterday and it made me realise quite a few things.

Yesterday I spoke to a recently new mum in our school. Its the first time we spoke since September. Im not too sure why but Ive had a feeling for a while that she didnt really want to talk. I just felt something wasnt quite right and did her best to avoid eye contact and any kind of communication with me.

But yesterday our kids started to play when leaving school, so she kind of had no choice but to talk and I introduced myself for the first time. "Oh you are English" "I thought you were Spanish" she said.

So my feelings were right, she had been avoiding me - but not because she didnt like me (well I dont think anyway) but because of her fears of not being able to communicate with me.

(if you are the mum that happens to be reading this, please dont take offence, I and many people have done the same probably but without realising it).

In the past I have actually done the same. When I took my daughter to Flamenco a few years back, I was the only English Person there and was scared to engage in conversation so probably did exactly the same and came across a little rude.

Although my Spanish is ok, the fact that I have been here 7 years and I dont know every single word or tense - I actually feel ashamed - although many Spanish say that Im very good and have many Spanish friends and always speaking it.

If you dont speak Spanish and live here at least learn the basics. Spanish people arent aliens, many of them especially Spanish Parents at these International Schools speak a little or even perfect English. Also what I have found is even if they dont speak it they understand it.

Spanish people are very forgiving even if you just say "Hola" "Lo siento no hablo español. An "Hola" and a smile can go a very long way.

If you are embarrased by not being able to speak Spanish - then do something about it. Learn it! It doesnt have to cost a fortune. Start of with kids books, cds, watch telly with subtitiles.

Many words you will already know...anything ending in ent is sounded ent-te for example. different is differente, excellent is excellente, and if you look at all those words you already know some Spanish.

Get a good teacher to explain how the language works and that will make learning so much easier. Like anything good foundation is really important.

Service Charges - Community Charges in Spain

What do you think about people that dont pay their service charge?

If you buy an apartment or a property within a community then you know, when you buy it you have to pay a service charge or ground rent. Same as in the UK. So why buy an apartment and not pay the service charge?

Where we own apartments for 7 years we have always paid our service charge and if a day came when we couldnt - we would email the president and explain the situation and assure him that the money would be paid as soon as possible. Times are tough and these situations do occure - of course they do.

But there are people on our community and probably many others that have NEVER paid! I just cannot understand it.

Some people that dont pay just have never been to their apartment, dont use it and well not too sure why they bought it. But its the people that do live in their apartments and use all the facilities that the Service Charge Covers that I and many other owners get rather pissed off at. So they use the pool, use the car park, use the security guard and some even have the cheek to complain about things.

Then you have other owners who dont pay yet rent their apartments out constantly to holiday makers who continue to enjoy all the facilities that havent been paid for by their apartment owner.

Why would you not pay service charge? I dont mean for 1 month or 2 months but Im talking 2,3 4, 5 or 6 years even.

Is it because you dont have money?

or

What?

I cant really think of any other reasons why people would not want to pay for facilities they use. I personally could not walk around the community, sit and chat to other owners by the pool and see and often come face to face with the president knowing I have not paid my community charge.

Well, there is a new law out - Im not 100% of it, but UK residents who have property here and not paying their services charge - I understand that it is possible they may have bailiffs knocking on their doors.

Colegios Marbella Privado y Publico

Sistemas españoles van enero a diciembre.

School Years in Marbella Spain

On the subject of schools in Marbella, I have never seen or known of so many children that seem to be in the wrong year.

Obviously there is the Spanish System but there is also the UK System which is followed in most of the International Schools.

Kids could start as young as 2 years and 9 months in a Spanish School! This is incredibly young.
Spanish systems go January to December. English System is September to August.

When I was enrolling my daughter originally into the Spanish System, they were very very strict about years and if you are born in 2003 then you started school in 2006 etc.

But in International Schools (many of them) Im finding kids 6 months younger than kids in the year above. So say a kid of 6 turning 7 years is in year 3, whilst a kid of 7 and a half is in Year 2.

When I see the kids lined up in the year above my daughter, many of them look incredibly younger, and most of them are Spanish Children. Spanish seem to put their children in early as I have seen kids starting in the first year coming to school in pushchairs and dummies. There are a number of English and other nationalities too.

Whilst some of these kids may be bright and it may be the right year for them, others struggle and will continue to struggle. Many even repeat years.

Kids even as young as 5 or 6 understand their friends repeating a year and can be extremely hurtful calling them a baby because they may not be able to play anymore in the same playground etc. This can really affect a childs behaviour and ability in school.

Another reason for kids starting early is because of "Convenience"...if you already have 1 child in the school and a sibling in nursery, its much easier to have both in the same school.

And, with Private Schools being a business, are they really going to say no at times like these?

Personally Id say make sure your child is in the right year and if you do put your child in early, speak to the teachers about their ability and make them repeat a year as early as possible, either in Early Years or Reception (Personally Id say Early Years or the very first year).

Our children will have many years to struggle once they start exams and working....dont let them struggle during some of the most precious times of their little lives.

Clinica Ochoa - Remedies for Coughs and Colds

I started feeling worse this afternoon and decided to go to the Doctor. Its been 3 weeks since I started feeling ill. First week with Migraine, Second with Cold and this week more fluey. I took myself to Clinica Ochoa in Marbella.

I did have Helicopterous Round on Saturday who said I had an infection and prescribed me 3 things including Antibiotics. Now Antibiotics are an amazing thing but the are not always great and certainly not for me. Trust me if I take antibiotics now, I will be ill for the next 6 months - they just dont agree with me.

So at Clinica Ochoa, handed over my card, asked some questions then a man came straight away and took me in his room. Blimey that was quick - I kept saying "are you the doctor"?

So after a chat and a check up he said - ok, you have got a slight infection in your throat affecting the whole respiratory system, ears, nose and throat.

He said - ok we are going to go back in time....

I want you to steam face 3 times a day with Vicks.

Prescribed me Otrivin Nasal Spray to do once befor each steam.

Romilar for the cough just at night time.

Already being told that at this minute I dont need antibiotics and with what he prescribed me - I feel so much better.

I completely forgot about my Remington Facial Machine that is about 15 years old! (im not a hoarder or anything).

So if you have the slight feeling of sniffles, chilly, coughy, mucosy - try this! Honestly I feel so much better now I can breath and it stops me from coughing for a while too.

After my experience at Costa Del Sol Hospital waiting 9 hours in A&E with my father-in-law and not being able to get an appointment on the NHS for 3 days....

I AM KEEPING MY PRIVATE HEALTHCARE!!!!!!!!!!

Ear Piercing in Marbella Spain

I was recently asked about Ear Piercing here in Marbella for Kids and why so many young children have earrings.

Well, I have heard about a doctor somewhere in San Pedro that does ear piercing for kids especially. I cannot find the details but pretty sure if you speak to any Spanish Mother in San Pedro, they will know.

Also Claire Accessories do ear piercing too. My daughter 5 and a half had been asking for about 2 years to have her ear pierced. Finally one day whilst passing Claires we decided that she could have it done.

I think nearly every single friend of hers has their ears pierced and has done since Day 1 as its very common for the matron to come when the baby is born and do it straight away.

Surprisingly when one day the subject come up between friends, I felt like I was the worst mother in the world because I let my daughter have her ears pierced. Some people have really strong views about Ear Piercing kids ears. But each to their own and respect everyones views. Kids endure alot more pain playing and fighting and falling over in the playground.

We were going to leave it until she was about 7 years old which was the same age I was, but she really really wanted to have them done and we explained that it will hurt and she wont be able to touch them or take them out and she was absolutely brilliant.

So if you are having a baby here in Spain you can ask the nurse how to get it done when they are still in hospital, Claires or find this doctor in San Pedro.

If you know about this doctor in San Pedro please leave a comment.

Google Earth Marbella - Google Earth Spain

Was told the other day about Google Earth that theres been some major and amazing changes to it here in Spain.

I was just about to link to a page but I cant seem to do it....

But basically you can see for example The Bull Ring in Puerto Banus and look clearly up and down the road and all around.

Its amazing.

San Pedro Beach Circuits - San Pedro Beach

Got up and out this morning to meet some friends by the sea in San Pedro. Park up by Bora Bora and walk all the way down. My daugher loves her Roller Skates...sorry I mean "Inline Skates". Bought them from Decathlon along with matching helmet and pads...she does look very cool.

Pleased to see that the Paseo seems to have been cleaned up. We stopped walking along here just because we hated seeing all the dogs muck and graffitti everywhere. But today it looked much cleaner.

Whilst walking we bumped into the guys that run the Beach Circuits on Sunday Mornings there at 11am. If you want to get fit, but dont have the push to do it yourself, go along on Sunday.

If interested email me for more info.

Fashion in Marbella - What do you think?

I havent been back to London this year and think its getting to me. Normally I go back at least once or twice a year and just get into the mood of shopping. Theres so much choice and I find the window displays amazing and so creative and basically makes you want it all.

I dont get that feeling here. Im bored with the same old shops. Its either too old or too young. I dont want to wear the same cheap clothes that the kids are wearing but I dont want to wear the same clothes I see stunning grandmothers in either.

Im bored, fed up and wish GOK would walk into my house now. I LOVE GOK and when I have loads and loads of money Im going to fly Gok over to sort me out. Except he would have to change his programme to "How to look good in Clothes" . Im probably the only girl I know that doesnt have a problem with her body (well in underwear)...I am what I am small, short with some boobs and think I actually look better in my underwear than clothed. I just hate all my clothes, want to chuck the whole lot away and start all over again. Im fed up with styles here and the fabrics - viscose, polyester, nylon....

I was once in Top Shop and the girls were putting clothes on the Mannequins asking for the other girls opinion. Que Bonita, Que Guapa, Fantastico - it was CRAP - it looked bloddy awful. My 5 year old daughter would do a better job.

Im so bored, fed up and uninspired with fashion here. HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I want for Christmas is GOK

Swine Flue Marbella - Swine Flu Costa Del Sol, Spain

I was speaking to a friend today whos friend has recently had swine flu here in Marbella. She got it really bad with vomiting, fever etc etc.

Ive kind of blocked it out as when I do mention it my husband, well he goes a bit mad and starts shouting to me...."jo do you know how many people die a year from normal flu?"

Answer is no, but Swine flu is whats making the news and it sounds absolutely awful.

All last week I had a Migraine, this week my throat has been really bad and my daughter was off sick today too. Now Im wondering if I have a mild version?

Back on goes my scarf around my mouth again! My husband thinks Im mad - when I go on a plane I always wear a scarf around my face and keep my mouth covered - idea given to me by another womaninspain blogger!!!

So where is the best thing to do if you think you have swine flu? i.e doctors, hospital. Whats good to keep in stock in the house? Can you buy the medicine upfront?

Also I really need to know if the drugs come in liquid form - as if I get Swine Flu and only comes in pill Im completely F&%$·"D as I cannot swallow pills.

Have you had Swine Flu Here - if so please do leave your comments with what happened to you. We all read the Medical Website but theres nothing like real information.

Latest Information NHS on Swine Flu http://www.nhs.uk/AlertsEmergencies/Pages/Pandemicflualert.aspx

How Long to walk from Marbella Port to Puente Romano

I had to take my car to Ford this morning at the end of Marbella. Ive had a bee in my bonnet all week of walking /running all the way home.

As always nothing goes to plan, Ive been under the weather and today my daughter too. But lat minute I went whislt my husband finally used the excercise bike sitting in our basement.

By the time I got out of the garage it was 915am. I had a bit of trouble to start with as they are laying pavements all down that end to continue the Paseo.

But once I got going I ran, walked, ran, walked, jogged and couldnt beleive how quickly I actually got the the Cinema at Plaza Del Mar. Its the next bit that always seems so long.

I had to try and get back for 9.45, Id left the garage at 9.15am and its 5kms or just over to my house!!! Im mental I know, I have absolutely no idea about distance and time! 5km in half an hour lol!!!

But I did get to the front of Puente Romano Hotel at 9.50am....not bad considering Ive not been feeling too good. And if I wasnt that ill, I surely will be now, but it felt great to do it and was back home in Nagueles at just gone 10am.

Si usted encuentra algo usted mismo, me deja saber. Esperamos que disfrute de la lectura Considera

Obviously nearly all restaurants will have a special menu and Im sure there will be something in Benahavis. I keep hearing about a restaurant called La Cocina where an ex chef of Gorden Ramsey works. I willl post your question up to see if anyone else knows about something else around your area. If you find something yourself, do let me know. Hope you enjoy reading Regards Joanne

Marks & Spencer Parque Commercial La Cañada Marbella Abra Hoy!

The Cardigans / Jumper Vestidos 40 - 50 € uros

Deja tus comentarios

Marks & Spencers Marbella Opened Today - My Review of M&S La Cañada

WARNING: Do not copy this content. If you do wish to use some then email me jomarbella@gmail.com beforehand.

So the long wait is over and Marks & Spencers La Cañada Marbella opened today.

I got there about 10.15am and there was a small gathering outside. 1 the general public and then lots of "VIP" infront of Marks & Spencers including the Mayor of Marbella, lots of press, photographers and other important people. Lots of clapping, announcements, clapping and then some idiot that shouted out "SO CAN WE COME IN NOW, ARE YOU OPEN" honestly it was an embarrasment to be British.

All the VIPS went in and a lady came round to the general public to say we shouldnt have to wait much longer. Once there Mayor has had a look around and left, we can all go in.

And Im sure you will all find this a surprise....They were running quite a few minutes late because The Mayor was Late!!! Surprise Surprise. Honestly, if the Queen can be on time the Mayor of Marbella can be ontime!

So entering Marks & Spencers, all the staff were lovely, bilingual, couldnt actually tell who was English and who was Spanish. Womens clothes on entering. Some really nice Knitwear from 15€uros upwards. A skinny rib with buttons was about 25€uros. Cardigans / Jumper Dresses 40 - 50€uros

Nice selection of Per Una, Limited, Indigo and their normal range too. Small section of underwear. Kids section was very small and I felt expensive. A pair of pyjamas I think were 25 or 29€uros!

They also had a small Home Section with photo frames, throws, cushions & duvets. Seemed to be quite a selection for men and then also gifts & gadgets - these I think are quite alot more.

The the main thing that everyone has wanted to know about....THE FOOD.

The food is right at the back. They have biscuits, sweets, wine, jams, pasta sauces, syrups, tea, coffee, cakes including Christmas Cake & Pudding and.....FROZEN MEALS!!! mmmm Im not too sure why Im excited as I never bought these in the UK but they have single meals, curries, prawns, duck wraps, steak pie, shepherds pie. Prices didnt seem that bad for the food....1.10€ to 2.50€ for a packet of biscuits, 3.50 to 7.50€ for some of the meals.

To give you an idea of prices, a pair of leggings I paid 13.95€ in UK they are 9.99pounds. The Ugg Boots are 21€ in UK 15 pounds. So depending on how much you buy, it really would be cheaper to buy online and get it sent over for 10 pounds or even 5 pounds at the moment.
6ft Duvet is 69pounds on UK Website 79€uros here.

Like all openings there were problems and todays problems was that their tills werent working right so could only pay cash, but this has to be expected on every opening.

My thoughts....I think its great, looks great, lovely to have such a familiar brand here in Marbella. They have to watch their prices as us brits know they deliver for 10 pounds and depending on the exchange rate and how much you buy it could be alot cheaper ordering from internet. But then if people go in try it on and then order from internet - well its still money and their own brand! Not like trying something on from say Levis in La Canada and then ordering it from John Lewis Website.

So did you go? What did you think of Marks & Spencers? Leave your comments

Just found my food receipt...
Honey Roast Cashew Nus 2.75€
Cheese Twist Box 1.95€
Cranberry & Orange Cookies 2.95€
Edamame Beans 1.75€
Fruity Flapjack Cookies 2.75
Creamed Rice Pudding 1.25€
Strawberry Jam 2.95

Pet Insurance in Marbella

Does anyone have pet insurance in Marbella.

We are thinking of getting it but as we have never had a pet before we are not really sure of what to look out for.

So if anyone does have any thoughts, advice and questions that we should ask the insurer please do email me jomarbella@gmail.com

Private Health Insurance in Marbella Spain

Private Health Insurance is big here. We have always had it and we must remember that really insurance is for when something goes really wrong.

For the amount of times we have used our health cover - we have spent far far too much. But we have been lazy and never got round to changing.

But thats going to change this year. At the moment we are with Asisa - National Nederland who have changed name or joined with Estrellas Seguros. Asisa in fairness have nearly always paid up when needed to as we can see which ever doctor we want and claim back 90%.

But, if you get a good insurance company which all hospitals / clinics want to deal with then you wouldnt need to see anyone else.

I cant start a new policy until January 1st. At the moment I pay 157€ per month for 2 of us. I have found quotes as low as 80€ and 104€ per month for 2 of us so thats a huge saving over the year.

Already saving money on our mobile bills too.

It takes time and its not easy trying to save money but once its done its done and will be worth it. Mobiles, Health Insurances, Electric, Gas, Telephone - its worth looking at other companies and options.

Private Schools In Spain - Are they the Best Schools?

Schools Schools Schools - do you know what they drive me mad. I thought when we made our decision that would be it - but every so often something crops up and I start thinking about schools again.

Most problems occure from a lack of Communication. Communication is everything and if communication was better - i.e clearer and more precise information, then the more information people know, the more informed they are about things, meaning there should be less questions and less confusion.

In the past I have said that the School Office Staff can be awkward (they are sometimes and they are all over the world in every school) but actually they are only told what to do from their boss - who I gather is head of school.

So for many of my friends who have kids in Public School and think you have problems with not knowing stuff - trust me theres not much difference in Private Schools (or some of them).

The safety of my daughter going to school is my main priority, not how well shes reading or writing and sometimes I dont feel that people fully understand the feelings that parents go through, especially when many teachers & headmistresses dont have children themselves.

Only 3 months ago I thought people that treated their dogs like kids were mad - but 3 months later, I have my own little dog and absolutely love him and if anything happened to him I would be distraught. I didnt feel this before I had a dog and the same applies to a child - until you have a child yourself I dont beleive you can fully understand parents feelings.

Private Schools are Businesses and sometimes you have teachers trying to run the business and business people thinking they are teachers.

Business people should stick to the business side and teachers should stick to teaching.

Anyway, got that off my chest!

Im very tempted....should I stay or should I go???

My Faith is Restored!!!

Yesterday morning a friend / work collegue was walking to work. On the way her purse must have fallen out of her bag. Money, Cards everything you would expect in a girls purse.

Yesterday afternoon she called the police Station in estepona to see if it had been handed in but no joy.

However today she received a call from the security guard in her urbanisation saying the police had just handed it in.

How wonderful to think that someone picked it up and handed it into the police...although we did the same...

Last year we parked up at Ikea in Malaga and found a thick wallet full of money, cards, etc. We did our best to findout whose it was and even called a few numbers in there but didnt get any joy.

We handed it into the staff at Ikea.

2 weeks later on our journey to Australia. We arrived at London late one night and drove of in my dads taxi leaving a suitcase with laptop, passports, paperwork - everything in the road....3 hours later we realised it was missing and thankgoodness a security guard found it and they had it in the airport.

What goes around comes around and I completely beleive in Good Karma

The Best Place for a Kids Party in Marbella

My daughter came out of school today so happy and excited that she was going to one of her school friends birthday parties and it was at....

Kidz Kingdom.

Kids just love Kidz Kingdom and I completely understand why. The guys that own it have done really well and done it properly. My daughter spent an hour tonight saying...can I have my party at Kids Kingdom, Can I have my party there!

They go in, play for about 45 minutes and then go through to the party room for all their food. Tonight it was Chicken Nuggets and Chips. Then they turned the lights off and the kids had a little disco with flashing lights and music, the kids went mental and just had so much fun, it was brilliant.

Then its cake time and out to play again. Gettting them out is pretty difficult and expect some tears!

Nueva Andalucia Newsletter Response

Hi Jo, Loved your comments especially about the EHIC cards and Insurance. We spend 6 weeks at a time down in Banus and being retired are always a little worried about the "what if's". Actually I am happy that the Hospitals charge, just wish they would do so in England, as every foreign national gets treated here for free, no wonder our NHS is in such a state. Glad to know there is a language school in Nueva Andalucia as I have been trying to learn Spanish and have decided to get a tutor, but this looks like a good option, many thanks. Keep your articles rolling, they provide a much needed service. Regards, Mo

MASTIBATION

Mastibation Promotion in Extremadura Spain - "The Pleasure is in your Hands"

I just found this from a friend on Facebook and have found the original article on Typically Spanish...I had to find out more as I just couldnt beleive it....

But The Extremadura Government are spending 14,000€ of public money to promote.......

MASTIBATION
Yes, Mastibation...you heard me correctly...
Here is the Article From Typically Spanish
Junta de Extremadura promotes masturbation in the young By h.b. - Nov 11, 2009 - 9:30 AM

The poster for the campaign
14,000 Euro of public money is being spent on workshops and the campaign with the slogan 'The pleasure is in your hands' The Junta de Extremadura has launched an advertising campaign to promote masturbation workshops under the slogan ‘The pleasure is in your hands’.The campaign teaches youngsters how to masturbate and also encourages them to explore self-eroticism, stroking, and using lubricants and erotic toys.25 boys and girls aged between 15 and 17 will attend two workshops on November 20.The General Director of IMEx, Extremadura Women’s Institute, María José Pulido, said ‘It’s quite normal. Every year we develop a project and this year we have decided to promote healthy habits in adolescents. The campaign wants to promote erotic self-knowledge from a feminist perspective’.Many Spanish papers have noted that Extremadura is the region of the country with the highest unemployment, and that 14,000 € of public money is being spent on the campaign.
So what do you think? Money worth spending or should it have gone on trying to help these people learn something useful to get back into work....although I guess it could be very useful in certain fields of work!

Eye Dontist Marbella

We used to go the the Opticians upstairs La Cañada but that closed down.

The guy that used to work there now works in Marbella in Eye Dontist - next to Massimo Dutti.

Service very good, quick too.

I will find telephone contact details soon.

Football Shop Marbella

I was just driving along the Ricardo Soriano, Marbella Road and noticed opposite Zara there is a huge shop selling all Football Gear for Real Madrid & Barcelona....maybe Malaga but not too sure.

I cant even remember the name of it. But looked like they had all footballs, clothes and the general presents.

Good idea for Christmas Presents maybe!

Learning Spanish in Marbella - A Language Holiday

If you would like to learn to speak Spanish I can completely recommend III in Nueva Andalucia. We did a 3 month intensive course here when we first moved here and although I wouldnt say Im fantastic, it gave as a great understanding of the language, how it works which makes learning easier.

You can do daily courses, weekly courses, monthly courses, its really up to you. Why not take a month in Marbella and do an intensive course every day.

You can read more information here http://www.iiischools.com/

And to find out about accommodation for a month visit www.lamaestranza.eu where you have a choice of 1 or 2 bedroom apartment just 2 minutes walk from the school.

Teaching Hospitals in Marbella

Dear Jo, I am currently a 2nd year Student Nurse at the University of Birmingham studying for a degree in BNursing. Throughout my programme, I have to undertake a number of placements to build up my clinical competence to practice as a Nurse. In July 2010, I am required to undertake an elective in a suitable location for 4 weeks. I am interested in coming to Marbella to undertake this elective. Please could you inform me of any good teaching hospitals there that would take student nurses on? Please could you get back to me in due course if there any placements available during this time, as I will be looking foward to your reply. Kind Regards, Alpa Vaza.

Wedding Show at Palacio de Congresso

PERFECT-WEDDING EXPO

has great pleasure in inviting you to join us at the

PERFECT WEDDING EXPO

PALACIO DE LA PAZ FUENGIROLA
14-15 November 2009

Official opening at 17:00 hours

www.Perfect-WeddingExpo.com

We are delighted to announce our forthcoming Wedding Expo in the beautiful Palacio de L Paz in Fuengirola Nov 14th & 15th 2009. Cleverly timed to capitalize on the normally quiet pre-Xmas period, it will be the first large-scale English-speaking event of its kind on the Costa. But definitely NOT the last! Because we plan to make it an essential annual fixture in the Wedding trade calendar …one that will grow year on year.

This year’s event, will feature 60 Exhibitors, every one of them a specialist in their field .They include wedding venues and guest accommodation experts, bridal dress and menswear outlets, cakes and catering companies, photographers, floral and decoration designers, in-church and reception entertainment agencies, transport and communications options and perhaps most importantly of all, Wedding Planners and companies expert in managing every aspect of your special day.

What we’re offering in effect is a one-stop Wedding Superstore catering to every need and nuanced market niche of the ever-expanding nuptials industry. Central to the event will be a series of professionally-choreographed fashion shows maximising the Palacio’s impressive stage-set up. While in the Main Hall visitors will enjoy in-stall demos of Exhibitors’ products and services and top tips on subjects from hair and make-up to video-production.

But as if this wasn’t enough, the weekend will also feature a full programme of wedding-oriented entertainment. Singers and musicians of all styles from opera to big band, from classical to rock, will perform live on-stage, making good use of the arena’s West End-standard sound and lighting system. So whatever you imagine your perfect wedding soundtrack to be, we’ve got it covered!

As a final flourish, the ‘icing on the cake’ if you like, we’ve created a specially-devised 20 minute romantic Celtic spectacle! Imagine Riverdance crossed with Romeo & Juliet! With pipers, dancers, tribal warriors, and a faerie Princess! The whole joyous scenario topped off with a swooning ‘Lord of the Rings’ soundtrack, stunning landscape projections and a heart-wrenching Romantic climax!

Outside the main arena, we can also boast a second, mini-event. One to keep the boys happy. An exhibition of classic cars and motorbikes. So whether Visitors dream of getting to their weddings in 5-star style or simply fancy an ogle at these sleek dream-machines this will give them a further incentive to come along and take part.

Several sponsors have already identified our Expo as the type of event the Costa should be encouraging. They recognise that in a time of crisis it makes sense to explore new markets and expand industries that capitalise on our unique strengths, especially our wonderful weather and luxurious Mediterranean setting! We are the ideal destination for weddings in Europe and fantastically well-placed to develop our already dynamic English-speaking wedding market (UK & Ireland). But we also have an emergent market here in our own place in the sun in the shape of a growing population of 2nd and 3rd generation English speakers of marriageable age!

We feel sure our Event offers YOUR business a wonderful opportunity to tap into new market possibilities. To this end we are actively seeking to start a hopefully ongoing relationship with new Sponsors. So if you’d like to know more about the show or how your company could profit from having a presence in it, please contact Wendy 638 008 889 or Linda 637 478 056 or check out our
website www.perfect-weddingexpo.com.

Thanks for reading this. We look forward to seeing you there!
Please call Wendy on 638 008 889 and mention this website.

Help, how do I get a passport for my dog here in Spain. I wasnt going to bother as I thought Id leave him here when I go on holiday, but actually when going back to see family, it would be quite nice.

So help...how do I get a passport for my dog here in Spain.

Where do I go?

What documents to I need?

How long does it take?

Mentality of people here on the Costa Del Sol

Here are a few of my favourite comments / things that stick in my mind which kinds of describes the mentality of the people here on the Costa Del Sol.

1) The Estepona Town Hall give their staff a BONUS if they turn up for work every day in the year. THATS WHAT A SALARY IS FOR!

2) "If I get to stay in my apartment for 11 months, then it becomes mine and I dont have to pay anything". There are so many people of all Nationalities I have heard say this.

3) A train driver whilst driving picked up a prostitute. The prostitute made a denouncia on the train driver as he wouldnt pay what she wanted. He got sacked but not for picking up a prostitute but because the train was late.

4) Im going to make life really difficult so they have to sack me. Ive been here for 6 years so I get loads of money.

Simon Cowell goes down on my List.

Tonight was my first time watching X Factor in my own home and WHAT A LOAD OF BLOODY RUBBISH.

I loved Simon Cowell but tonight I have completely gone off him. He said...well I will base it on tonights act....

Lucy sang fantastically the twins were crap. Simon had the deciding vote and left it to the public.

Why?

What I cant understand is I dont know one person who likes these twins and yet someone is voting for them. This is the mentality of the Public of the United Kingdom - its mental.

I cant beleive how wrapped up in it I am already. DONT GET FREEVIEW OR SKY IF YOU ARE MANAGING WITHOUT IT - ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!

Is Cheryl Cole Pregnant or Has Cheryl Cole had a nose job?

Tonight watching Xfactor I couldnt help but notice that Cheryl Cole looked different. Her nose looked like it had a much bigger bridge / point in her noise. Her nostrils also looked narrower.

Then I thought maybe its her makeup or her hair. Normally her hair is alot higher off her forehead.

Then looking at her face it looked a bit plumper - is Cheryl Cole Pregnant?

Golden Sun Restaurante - El Mejor Restaurante Chino Marbella

Buen servicio, excelente comida!

Golden Sun Benavista - The Best Chinese Restaurant in Marbella

Friday Night I took my husband and daughter to the Golden Sun Restaurant in Benavista. I have been there twice now and think its very good. The reason I found out is that they dont use monosodiumglutamate. I said they should have a huge sign saying "We Dont Use MSG"

As always the welcome was wonderful. We had a lovely table until a group of 5 drunk men came in. I was tired, hungry and had my little girl with me and didnt really like her listening to all the swearing coming out of their mouths so asked to move to another table. They were so drunk they didnt even notice.

We had a menu for 2 and shared it between 3 of us plus 1 extra course. Lots of good food and drink and it came to 45euros.

My daughter 6 years old absolutely loved making the duck pancakes - she has never eaten them before and Ive never seen her eat something so fast.

Great service, great food!

Libre De Gluten Restaurants Puerto Banús Marbella

Gluten Free Restaurants - TGI Fridays Puerto Banus New Gluten Free Menu

After seeing GForce at Puerto Banus Cinema, we passed by TGI Fridays which unfortunately was empty. Infact every time we have passed it this week there has not been a sole in there. Its November and not many people around but do wonder if TGIS will last now Hard Rock Cafe is here.

However, back to the point....I noticed that they had a sign saying Gluten Free Menu Available which is great news for those with Gluten Problems.

Its so tough going out to restaurants especially with kids asthey just want to eat what everyone else is eating but they cant.

A really good idea!

James Bond Party - Best James Bond Dresses

We have been invited to a James Bond theme party.

Looking for ideas. The only 2 womens outfits that stand in my mind is the all in one gold body suit or the Halle Berry Bikini - I think it will be a bit too chilly for that.

So any ideas would be greatly appreciated and pictures too.

Desigual Puerto Banus

If you are looking for the clothing range Desigual in Puerto Banus you will find it in El Corte Ingles. There is also a large shop upstairs in La Cañada.

I bought my first item of clothing tonight in Desigual a really nice dress which is slightly different to the normal shape they normally do.

60€, fits really well and its one which I can wear on its own, with jeans or leggings. I like to buy things thats are versitile.

What is it with Morrisons Gibraltar

We went to Morrisons just to get literally a couple of bits. Should have spent 10 pounds. Came out spending 135 pounds!

Stocked up on all my Golden Syrup, Sun Pat Peanut Butter, all my Thai & Chinese sauces that are much cheaper.

When I go to Morrisons I shop completely different to how I shop in Mercadona. I buy 2 or 3 of everything. I dont know the last time I spent over 100€ in Mercadona.

Also bought my first box of Mince Pies.

BHS Toilets in Gibraltar

We went to Gibraltar today as we are all on holiday finally. The sun was out and walking up main street was actually quite nice. Shame about the disgusting toilets in BHS, they are so grotty.

My daughters reading every sign and notice at the moment and whilst I was doing a pee she was facing the door as always. Except on these doors there was writing....like....If you are a lesbian call me, I will not disappoint......mummy whats a lesbian!!!

La Moraga Puerto Banús - Examen Personal

PERSONAL DE EXAMEN DE LA MORAGA Puerto Banús.
