Spejos Manicure....My Review

Does Manicura have the same meaning as Manicure?

Today we went to San Pedro Market and then for a wander around San Pedro  As always...strolling past Spejos...I get curious, curious as to if they are any good in there at cutting, colouring manicure and pedicure. Sod it...I thought, 10euros for a Manicure...so I took the opportunity of having my daughters grandad around and took 30 minutes for myself.

I entered Spejos and was able to have a manicure straight away.  Used to be 7€ now 10€ and they did say if I wanted French it would be 2€uros more.

The Manicure Starts...
I sit down and notice that thers no real work space with labeled products or tools.  She gets out this grotty that was once the colour clear Clinique Make up bag....one of those freebies.  Its filled with manicure metal things that all looked abit mankey.  A nail file comes out, infact its the only thing that represents a file in her once clear free Clinique Makeup Bag.  Its definately seen better days.  She starts to file my nails.  I beleive that really you should only file in 1 direction as otherwise it weakens the nail (not 100% on that fact)..she  filed like mad each and every direction.

Then the Soaking and....
Once filed they were then soaked for a few minutes...dried  and then filed again with this same taty old emery board.  She even tried to buff the top and sides of my nail with the emery board!

Now normally time to clean under the nail if it hadnt already taken place......Im waiting and waiting...

So, filed, soaked, filed again and now time for getting rid of that dead skin...

The Skin Remover Object
She must have had such good eyes as I could only see a few bits of dead skin hanging around...she found dead skin everywhere and removed practically every bit of skin around every single nail.

The Cuticle Remover...shaking the bottle vigourously back and forth, god forbid she should leave a drop in there....Poured onto my nails like pouring ketchup over chips.  Running all down my nails onto the towel...no wonder she has none left.  No massaging into the nail bed....nope its time for the long curved cuticle remover object to appear from the once the colour clear free Clinique Make up bag.  She manages to push all the cuticles back and scratch my nails at the same time.

The Massage
Come on with the massage....ah my favourite bit...cream from a bottle that had gunk all around the top, a huge bottle about 1 litre that had probably been sitting there years...quite nice massage all of 30 seconds.

Choosing the Colour
Now the fun bit...I had a selection of pre painted nail colours to choose from...I really wanted purple, but thought...I better go O´Natural as if its no good it wont show up as bad and I  can go over it with my colours.....what a great choice / fab idea of mine!!!

Base Coat...Once again I had the dregs of the bottle, gunky...loaded on  not only my nail but all over my cuticle, then with her free hand cleaning my nails up with her own nail....actually every single nail she had to clean up and this was just the base coat.

The Nail Polish
Now time for the clear colour...omg, she didnt do one nail  without getting it all on the skin. Come  on girl, shake, take out the brush and wipe the excess on the top of the bottle....no!!! Out the bottle straight on my nail and dripping everywhere....once again not one nail that she didnt clean up as she went along.  I was asked if i wanted a second coat as it would make the colour darker........I passed and just asked for some top coat.  Well least my new layer of skin looked nice and shiny.  Oh and the cleaning under the nail never happened.

It was an experience and Im pleased my curiosity is now cured.  Unbeleivably it came out looking ok, not perfect but better than when I went in.

Spejos is actually quite a great business and today I learn how it does things so cheap.  The hairdressing have no towels, they have these disposable creations.  No aprons or covers...disposables.    So noone to employ to collect, clean, dry etc.  The chairs and tables are all basic, no up and down or fancy things.  No appointments so no need for a receptionist.

Final Thought!
A few years ago I went to a Christmas Fair where some 13 / 14 year olds were doing mini manicures...these kids had better technique.

My daughter 6 years old can actually paint my nails better in 3 single strokes.

I can actually do a manicure better.

Would I go again????   Probably not...but I never say never
