Restaurantes Mexicano Marbella

Mexican Restaurants Marbella

Im sitting in Estepona Sports Centre at the moment upstairs in the cafe, watching my daughter and husband swim. Its so nice here, bright & clean. 2 computers free of charge to use too.

Last night we went out with friends, it was the first time in 6 years all of us have been out together without kids.

It was suggested to us - "The Mexican" Restaurant on the Golden Mile on the left hand side as you drive towards Marbella.

Well I was really impressed, and you know Im not often impressed by restaurants here.

It was a really nice atmosphere in there. Between 6 of us we shared 3 starters that was perfect. Nachos were great, chicken fingers great and the most delicious mushrooms stuffed with philapdephia - delicious, oh and long with 6 margheritas.

For mainers I had the chicken, others had fajitas, burritos, ribs and everyone was very happy. It was all so tasty.

We had a dessert which was also very very good.

It was an incredibly busy restaurant, full of Spanish. People were coming in at 12 and still ordering main courses.

We all had a great time, it was really nice, great food and we didnt feel ripped off.

Bill was 215€ between 6 of us and that included ALOT of alcohol.

Will definately be back! They open all day and do takeaway too.

Alterations Shop in Centro Plaza - Alteraciones de Ropa Nueva Andalucia

My husband told me the other day and I forgot to post it, but in Centro Plaza a new little shop has opened up that does all alterations on your clothes.
Plaza Atelier
Centro Plaza Local 11
Nueva Andalucia
0034 660 900 579
They do all alterations and the prices seem pretty reasonable too.

Driving Licence in Spain - Carry your Driving License

My husband got stopped today by the Guardia Civil as they were doing their normal check on the roundabouts in Nueva Andalucia.

My husband had his residencia but didnt have his driving licence on him - why? Well, my man now has 2 manbags now and decided to have a change and left it in the other one.

Anyway, policeman said SIEMPRE / Always have your driving license on you!

Malaga Airport to Crown Resorts & Club Delta Mar Mijas

Hi Jo,

We have booked an appartment at the Crown Resorts and Club Delta Mar (see address below)

Our flight arrives 10:05 at Malaga airport on a Saturday and our check-in time is only 16:00

I was thinking of storing our luggage somewhere and go sight-seeing in Malaga while we’re there

Do you know if there a luggage storage facility at the train station in Malaga?

Also, I understand we must take the train to Fuengirola and then the bus to Mijas Costa?

Where does one buy the bus tickets and at what stop should we get off?

The day-trips we’re planning are to Granada and Ronda. Any advice on the best way to get there?

Hi A

There is no luggage store at Malaga firstly.

If you go to any big hotel, they will all provide day trips, also Dunnes Store (clothes shop) fuengirola has a box where you can buy tickets etc.

Buses, just pay on the bus or you can buy weekly tickets Im sure.

From Malaga Airport you can either get the train to fuengirola and then a bus.

Or the other option is the airport bus direct from airport to Marbella Bus Station 4.03€ 45 minutes and then you get a bus Backwards.

1st option probably best.

Hope this helps. May find www.malaga-airport-guide.com useful

Emmigrating to Spain

Its pouring down with rain, cold, I have no heating working and cant get the fire to go. So Im not in the best of moods I guess.

just got an email from my brother joking about the UK and saying he should emmigrate....
Emmigrate isnt a word people really use anymore, especially to Spain.

As ive said before, unless you are very wealthy and able to move and live without working.....emigrating is the same shit - different language.

I dont think I would put up a fight if we had to move back to the UK.......I cant beleive Im saying this but its true.

Would save on the school fees anyway!

Internet Problems & Water Problems in Marbella

I havent been writing much as ive had problem after problem with the internet. My router keeps showing the red alarm. It was red for 2 days then finally telefonica man came and sods law it worked. Then he leaves and it goes red again. This is driving me mental as I need the internet.

Then on top of that we have problem after problem in our house where I just seem to be waiting in the whole time.

Im so pissed of that Im actually considering moving. We moved to a brand new house that seemed great at the time. All new appliances, new bathrooms...stunning.

But the idiots who own it didnt check it, so since February we have had problem after problem. Mainly caused by water either coming from the outside in or just inside. We have glass falling out of the doors, the air con / heating doesnt work. A leak next door has stopped us from using our basement as a proper room as no point putting carpet down.

Today was the icing on the cake.

Aircon people came on time this morning at 10.30. I was going to go out at 11am.

They found the problem straight away and said they need to order a piece....meaning no heating. Then the person on our developement said...take one from a house thats not being used...these people (us ) need heating. So I said, OK, Ill cancell my arrangements, lets get this done.

So I popped out and they were to come back in an hour or so. I call to let them know Im back home at 1pm. They call me back saying they will be with me at 4.15.

Great....ive rushed back once again.

So collect my daughter from school, get home to receive a phone call that its raining and now they cannot do it.

Are they Fu&%$%&% idiots....they keep me in all day, and then say they cant do it.

Its been raining on and off all day. So back again tomorrow at 9.30. they say.

Then my husband wonders why Im pissed off every night. Ive had months of this, waiting and waiting for people to come and fix their problems. Then when I am at home I can hardly work as the internet is off.

Most other people would stop their rent - but us...no! We just not the sort of people to do that

Last week I was in the whole day Wednesday Thursday & Friday, this week Monday & today, and tomorrow.

So if you see me pissed off this is why....Im so bored.

I joined the libary in La Campana Nueva Andalucia last year and havent used it much but went back the other day to get my card.

The library is in La Campana. You go over the roundabout (left is the correos) down the road and its on the left. there are gardens where there is the police station, ayutamiento building and also the library on the right hand side.

Just take your residencia / NIE and the man in there is very helpful.

There are computers to use and everytime I go there there are people sitting around and using them.

Open 9 am to 9pm

Me uní a la biblioteca de La Campana en Nueva Andalucía el año pasado y havent utilizado mucho, pero volvió el otro día para conseguir mi tarjeta.

British School of Marbella - New British School of Marbella

A brand new school will open soon called The British School of Marbella. They have schools in Russia, China, Kuala Lumpur and a couple of others and should be ready to open in Marbella around March time.

I always think its quite exciting news schools opening as sometimes it makes other schools give themselves a kick up the backside especially when parents move their children. Its good to have a choice.

The building is being refurbished at the moment and its situated in Marbella itself in Calle Jacinte, just behind Ricardo Soriano.

You can find information about the school, prospectus and online applications forms here

Colegio Colonia del Angel Nueva Andalucia

Dear Jo,

I saw your website and wondered if you could give me some advice sbout secondary schools in Marbella?

First of all i wanted to know if the Escuela Rural de Colonia del Angel next to Aloha college is a secondary school and is it private and also can you recommend the best state secondary school in marbella.

Regards,

J

Dear J

Sorry for the delay.

The Colege under Aloha Im pretty sure is a primary school. Its run by the church I think and you have to make donations as far as I am aware.

Regarding State Schools Secondary, If Im going to be honest, I havent heard anything positive, which I find a worry. Even our Spanish Friends worry about the secondary schools.

There are State, Private and also Concertado which is half and half. La Latina in Marbella is Concertado. I have heard quite good things about Bocanegra Colegio in Marbella Centre.

IN Marbella Old Town in one of the Ayuntamiento Offices you can pick up a list of all schools.

Hope this helps

Just found out im pregnant in Marbella

Hi Jo,
Hope you have a lovely Christmas & New Year.
I have just moved to Marbella (last month) from the UK with my husband & 2 and a half year old daughter. We had a bit of shock on New Years Day when I discovered I was pregnant...although we were hoping for another child soon, we never expected it to happen as soon as we moved here! So I am currently 5 weeks pregnant... and I have absolutely no idea where to start with regards to midwives, scans, etc!! We have no health insurance yet, so I'm guessing our only option is to pay privately...expensive I'm sure! Does the European Health Insurance Card entitle me to any check up's / etc?
I would really appreciate any advice you could give me as I really do not know where to start! We live in Sierra Blanca, so I can easily access both Marbella & Banus.
Love your website by the way!
Kind regards,

R

HI Rachael,

You sound just like me...4 weeks after moving here I found out I was pregnant.

The easiest thing is to go private and just pay.

Re midwives theres quite a few around, one called marion http://www.costadelsolmidwife.com here are her details.I havent used her I used a lovely lady called Ann halpenny but she has just had twins herself and dont think she is working.

Health Insurace does cover pregnancy but only when policy has been enforced for 10 months. There are people that have had babies on their E111 but the hospital are cutting down on this. You really need to look iinto this as things have changed.

The Costa Del Sol Hospital is nhs but also you can pay to have the baby there if not covered.

Remember that private is a business so you will probably be asked to come back for lots of scans and tests.....you dont have to! Personally see the midwive as much as you can and go for a couple of scans as you need.

We had private health care that kicked in at the very end...but we also set up a company to pay social security too so we wre completely covered as the costa del sol is very good hosptial.

Speak to the midwife - she will know quite a bit.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Advasol Solutions - Pool Safety Marbella

Hi Jo,
Hope you are well?
You may remember helping me out with an article which focused on expats returning to Blighty?...
My husband and his brother have a renewable energy business (solar, airsource systems etc) and they have diversified slightly in swimming pool service and safety.
There are new laws that are due to come into force soon (when? your guess is as good as mine, being Spain!) that will mean a hefty fine (45,000 euros in France) for those who have not equipped their pool with a safety fence. France passed the law sometime ago and as it is an EU directive, Spain, will no doubt follow suit.
There are many accidents involving children every year in Spain and can be a key decider when families choose to rent holiday apartments. This will also impact on urbanizations too.
I have written an article on it (it does have our details on if that's ok) and wonder if you mind putting it up as I know that your site focuses heavily on families.

Please read on...

POOL SAFETY

Maximise your holiday rental income and help take responsibility for

the safety of other's...

It's a fact that pool safety is a key decider when families choose to

rent holiday apartments or villas..

It's a sad fact that many children under the age of six, every

year, are involved in tragic pool accidents whilst on holiday..

It makes sense to equip your pool with a safety fence that allows

families to enjoy their holiday with total peace of mind..

Knowing that your pool is properly equipped will help eradicate any

such incidents...

France was the first European country to pass the law which states

that all swimming pools should be properly equipped with EU standard

safety fencing...

That was in 2006 and Spain will soon follow suit...

A fine of 45,000 euros was set in France for those who ignored the ruling.

Naturally, once the law is passed, prices will increase, so why not

take the decision and invest in a pool safety fence... Increase your

rental potential and feel secure in the knowledge that your guests

safely enjoy your property and return year after year...

Advasol pool fencing is, by far, the safest and most cost effective

pool fencing solution you'll find...

EU certified and removable, our pool fencing systems offer a cost

effective way to secure your pool..

The fence can be erected and taken down in minutes and when stored,

takes-up little space. Additionally, and, most importantly, it is

designed with a patented safety catch and with a self-closing gate to

give you and your guests total peace of mind..

Our fencing solutions ensure that your fence is aesthetically

in-keeping with your property...

Contact us now for a no-obligation free site survey... It could

possibly be the most important decision you'll make this year....

Setting up a Business Seminar in Marbella

Rose & Clavel Chartered Accountants will be running a series of three seminars themed around
the subject of “Nurturing your Business”. These seminars are being organised to help business
people gain a better understanding of Spanish business practices and make their companies
more successful.

The first seminar tackles the important topic of Starting a Business and covers the key steps
any entrepreneur should take when venturing into business in Spain. This will be held in the
Rose & Clavel offices in Nueva Andalucia on February 2nd, following a discussion about the
subject on Talk Radio Europe on January 19th.

The key points to be covered are:

1. The importance of conducting thorough market research on your competition, target
market and relevant Spanish law before starting a business
2. How to ensure that the numbers stack up in terms of set up costs, overheads, profit
margin and volume required to be a viable business
3. An overview of the compliance system in Spain and the issues which often trouble new
businesses, e.g. employment law
4. The issues with starting a business as an SL company
5. The funding required to see you through the first few years of business
6. Why it is important to consider your exit strategy before starting the business

The first 2 hour seminar is taking place on Tuesday 2nd February and morning and afternoon
sessions will be available. The cost is 25€ per person including refreshments, but the first 6
people to register will be free. Places are limited, please email info@roseandclavel.com to
reserve a place.

The other two seminars will be about Business Survival and Disposal and are planned for later
this year. Founder of Rose & Clavel, Susana Serrano-Davey ACA, explains why they have
organised these seminars. “There’s no doubt that it’s a tough economic climate, yet people are
still hoping to build a successful business. The first seminar will help new businesses to flourish,
by ensuring that all the details are considered before embarking on a new venture. Every detail
counts at the early stages and the better prepared a business is at the outset, the better their
chances of success.”

Cinco Bufones - Best Fancy Dress Shop in Marbella

I love wandering around new areas. Marbella is actually a really big area and today I wandered around where all the locals buy their fruit and veg. I loved it.

Wandering around I found Cinco Bufones which is a fantastic fancy dress shop that sells everything you could possibly need for a great party.

At the moment its only open in the afternoons from 5pm onwards.

To get there from Single Home Building (blue building) in Marbella take the road opposite, bear to the left hand side continue up and Cinco bufones is on the left.

Andres Butchers Marbella - Andres Carniceria

Whilst walking around Marbella waiting for my dog to be washed today, I finally found Andres Carniceria.

Lots of our Spanish Friends buy their meat from Andres and have been desperate to find it.

Its was packed and if you dont speak Spanish you may feel a little intimidated as its packed with Spanish and very loud.

You enter, take a ticket and wait for your number to be called.

They have a massive range of meats and poultry, hams, cheeses and lots of other yummy things.

I bought nearly 2 kilos of Mince Meat Beef for 13.67€. It was about 725 per kilo.

Directions... La Cañada Exit, turn right down towards the sea. At Mercadona turn left and continue passed the cemetary. Andres is just behind the Hair Dressing School on the left. Opposite Medivet.

Or from the Bottom Road, at Single Home Building take the road up opposite and bear to the left. Andres will be on the right behind the Hair dressing school.

Medivet Marbella

What an eventful morning Ive had. I made some phonecalls the other day about Mobile Dog Groomers as where Ive been going a few times suddenly shot their prices up. VIP Pets is a fab shop and the first time I took my dog there they charged me 15€ for a clean. The 2nd time it went up to 25€ then the other day they wanted 35€. Im not spending 35€ on a tiny little dog to be cleaned every 4 weeks.

So I spoke to a really nice woman who was very honest and said, she charges 35€ for a clean to come to my house. But she felt that was too much for such a little dog. However, the petrol and time travelling she couldnt lower it. But she told me abou the vets that she works in on Mondays & Wednesday. Medivet in Marbella

So I gave them a call and depending on his weight it would be either 10 or 15€uros.

Im happy paying this every few weeks. Anyway, the staff were really nice, they sell all the usual pet things, leads, food, clothes etc. They also speak English too.

I had no idea where it was but remember her saying La Cañada Junction, Mercadona & Cemetary...I found it pretty easily.

So at the La Cañada Junction (beach side) go down towards the sea....at Mercadona turn left and you pass the cemetary. As you drive down there is a hairdressing school on the left and its just behind here.

Im also very pleased to have found Cinco Bufones Marbella which is the best fancy dress shop locally and also the Famous "Andres" Butchers in Marbella.

Agriculture Centre Estepona - Agricultura y Pesca Estepona

If you are trying to get your dog or cat a passport, you will be told once you have the blood test results, to go to the Agricultura Oficina in Estepona.

I went there today and for once I found map reading rather easy compared to operating the sat nav in my car.

Basically, come off at the 2nd junction for Estepona (from Marbella Direction). Drive towards Estepona, pass the feria grounds on your left. At the big round about turn right where the BP station is, then at the next round about turn left where Lidl is and Mercadona. The office is just there on the left.

This is where you go if you want to get a fishing License in Spain, Pet Passport and or a couple of other licenses to do with working with animals.

Very good service.

Piers Morgan Marbella

Finally a programme that showed Marbella in a better light. We were sitting last night watching it and thinking, wow it looks amazing....then Hold On A Minute - we live here.

When you live here you see the faults, its doesnt look as great in real life as it does on telly in the summer but its still a fantastic place.

All was great I thought, except for the stupid Champagne Parties, spending hundreds on a bottle of champagne and then throwing it all over people. Most of these kids dont have a pot to piss in but they have to be seen a Nicki Beach.

Personally there were a few people talking on the show about their businesses, how rich they are and how the hide their money in Gibraltar which I thought was rather stupid....but all in all a better show about Marbella than most.

Well Done Piers...what did you think?

Olivia Valere Marbella

If you saw Piers Morgan last night in Marbella you probably saw the interview with Olivia Valere who owns Olivia Valere Night Club.

Years ago when I was a very young free & single girl I came away with all the girls. We went to Olivia Valere and remember driving there in the taxi and it felt it was miles away and then you turn up in the middle of nowhere.

It was full of glamerous women and very very wealthy men. I remember it being really hot in there and it was like salt was in the atmosphere making you really thirsty - which wasnt good news as once we bought one round we realised we couldnt really afford this place.

I think all those years ago a bottle of water was 10 pounds. It was 20 or 25 pounds for a gin & tonic. The prices were ridiculous. I remember waiting for the richer people to leave their table so we could nick the ice to suck on! Oh those were the days.

Then I came to live here and I couldnt beleive how close the club actually is, things look so different at night and when in a taxi.

Great fun and definately recommend going at least once.

Plans for Nueva Andalucia - Planas Para Nueva Andalucia

Just come across this article about Nueva Andalucia in "La Tribuna". Its all about improvements that are going to be happening in Nueva Andalucia. The English is translated in google translate...so not perfect but you get the rough idea of what their plans are.

Below in Spanish and also full article here http://www.latribunademarbella.com/noticia/16736/Local-Marbella/nueva-andaluc%C3%ADa-empieza-2010-30-proyectos-cartera.html

The director of that district, Baldomero León, gave a good account of them last Friday when thirty stressed that the projects "have the consensus of the collective neighborhood district.Among the most important for implementation in 2010, Leon has highlighted the improvement of the section of the promenade between Rio Verde and Rio Guadaiza, "a flagship project that we hope that is nearly ready for the end of the year." "The City Council also continues renewing street furniture and different sections of a footpath widening and street lighting in Real and Avenida del Prado.

Bowling La Cañada, Bowling in Marbella

As mentioned before I took my little girl bowling for the first time the other day. She loved it, especially as she didnt come last.

The staff were pretty friendly and quite a nice atmosphere in there, although a little quiter than I expected.

It was 8€ for 2 games per person.

Mc Donalds not Fast Food in Spain

The other day I met a friend at La Cañada to take the kids bowling. My little girl has never been bowling so she was very excited.

We treated them to a Mc Donalds too just before. Well I just have waited about 25 minutes altogether. My friend and her kids had already finished theirs by the time I just got to sit down. The service is ridiculous.

I timed it that night that I made a beef stir fry supper with noodles quicker than Mc Donalds.

TGI Fridays Puerto Banus

On Saturday I was really looking forward to being taken to La Moraga, unfortunately we didnt anticipate how busy it was going to be.

Second Choice was Hard Rock - always really busy with 1 hour wait. So we thought....OK lets give TGI Fridays another go.

Well, the burger was better than the previous times, but the portion of chips that came with it was rather mean. Even though many people dont finish all the food on the plate, massive portions are what you expect.

Wheres the fun waiters and watresses gone? Its depressing, the staff seem unhappy, a table of 8 arrived and didnt get served for so long they got up and left.

Bill was nearly 50€ and I think I would have preferred a Mc Donalds!

TGIS have a chance to pull back especially when Hard Rock is completely full andpeople have the taste for burgers....but with unmotivated staff and very mediocre food...I cannot see how its going to last.

Bring back the fun into TGI´s

3 Kings Day Spain - 6th January in Spain

We know many English People that have never ever gone to see the 3 Kings Parade, mainly because they dont know what it is or where and dont feel confident as its such a "Spanish" thing.

Well there really is nothing whatsoever to worry about. If you have kids, they will absolutely LOVE it!

On the night of the 5th in probably every town there will be a procession. Normally along the main high street. For example, San Pedro goes up and down the main narrow streets and ends up at the Square by the Church. Marbella is all along the main Ricardo Soriano, starts at the sports centre and finishes at the Palacio de Congresso.

This year at Marbella we got there around 6.15pm and the procession finally came along at about 6.50pm. The streets are lined with people and theres a great atmosphere around. The procession finally comes along with a number of floats and basically throw sweets into the crowds and all the kids pick up as many as they can and fill their plastic carrier bags. Lasted about half an hour and then afterwards we went for some amazing tapas in Marbella.

Then on the 6th January is when the kids open up their presents. Yesterday we wondered around Puerto Banus and nearly all the restaurants were open and the odd shop.

If you havent been to 3 kings parade - go at least once. The kids have a fab time.

. We have been a couple of times (only because other times we havent been here) but went the other night to Marbella.

Home Birthday Party in Marbella

This year I got away with doing a small home birthday party. I know that sounds terrible, but I just didnt fancy a biggy in one of the ball parks this year like I did last year.

So I had this wonderful idea to do a small party at home as we have the space in the Basement come rain or shine.

I told parents that if they wanted they could stay or go - up to them as the kids were pretty safe in my house and they werent going anywhere.

A few trips to the Chinese Shop, El Corte Ingles, La Cañada for loads of bits for Pass the Parcel & Musical Statues etc. I made them sandwiches, with crisps & yogurts and they all ate at the same time rather than have the food out all the time. I learnt my lesson a few years ago when I was cleaning my apartment for 3 weeks!

I was rather stressed as my husband decided that day he was going to be ill and spent all day in bed. He had picked up some bug as my daughters best friend who we were with the night before also was ill.

So I was running around like a blue arse fly but got there in the end!

Lots of prizes, dancing, singing & games. A couple of mums called me and said their kid had a wonderful time which was really nice.

I really like home parties with the old fashioned games, its nice to keep the kids young. Kids want to run around, be with their best friends and have lots of tat to take home. Thats makes kids happy.

New Years Eve Baby - Avoid Sex in April!

If you are trying for a baby personally, although I would take what ever was given, I would try and avoid sex in mid to late April.

Because due date will be in December sometime probably towards the end. My birthday is New Years Eve, which everyone first of all thinks - wow, amazing, how exciting, what a wonderful birthday....

Well to be honest its Shite. Thats the truth of the mattter. When you are younger you get 2 presents, then Christmas & Birthday start to role into one and then once you are older they stop all together.

My daughters birthday is the day before mine on the 30th and I do my absolute best to make sure Christmas, Birthday & even 3 Kings is separate. But even at 6 years old the presents start to drop off and suddenly shes given 1 thing or money for both....exciting for a 6 year old!

New Years Eve people forget its your birthday and just think New Years Eve...so many a time you dont even spend it with the people you want as they are all too busy with celebrating their New Year.

Its crap, honestly, so if you can, avoid those drunk wild nights around April :)
