How Much Are Churros? Best Place for Churros in Marbella

Saturday morning, we had a wonderful morning walking around Marbella Old Town.

Some great shops there if you are looking for nice gifts....the olive oil shop is wonderful.

Walking through the main square, fancied a coffee then saw Churros....as always, me and my little girl say mmmm churros, husband says "no, not for me, ill just have a coffee"....yeah right until they turn up.

Sat in the square for ages...im not good at waiting, think waited for about 15 minutes till services.

Ordered, 1 churros enough for the 3 of us, 1 chocolate and 1 coffee....that was it.  Churros was very very good.

I went to get and pay bill, husband gave me 15€uros.....I also took a bottle of water and do you know....that wasnt enough money!!!

I was shocked....12€uros for the Churros.  Ok, was sitting in Marbella Old Town, but bloddy hell 12€uros.  The bill came to 18.50€, 3 days later my husband still hasnt got over spending 12€ on fried stuff.

I think we forget living here how beautiful Marbella is....People come on holiday here from all over.  But Marbella is looking very sad for itself with shops closing.  But I can tell you I wont be going there again.

They probably put the price so high, cause their landlord put the rent up as all his other properties are sitting empty....thats right...in a crisis, put the prices up.

How much do you pay for Churros?

Im pretty sure in Malaga City we had some great churros and they were about 5€uros.

When Will I Learn?

After nearly 8 Years of living here I should have learnt the following.

If you ask a Spanish Person "Will you be coming here tomorrow"  and the answer is anything but "SI" - That means No.

Quiza Si = NO

Te Aviso = NO

Creo que Si = NO

Ojala = No

Me Gustaria = No

Unless the answer is a short word on its own which is "SI" dont wait in for them

Yes, you guessed it, I started my morning waiting in for someone who obvioiusly isnt coming.

Change of Road Layout La Cañada

Im writing this up as I think its very important...

The Road Markings as you come out of La Cañada to join the N340 to go to Puerto Banus has CHANGED again.

If you leave La Cañada by the big round about and you drive around joining the N340...this is NOW YOUR RIGHT OF WAY.  The other traffic coming up the slip road ..... they have to stop....or should stop.

So take care.

So if you leave La Cañada by the petrol Station & Fire Brigade then when you join this road, you have to give way further ahead...where before you had right of way.

Might sound confusing, but all will make sense the next time you are there.  Just take care....noone seems to know what they are doing and Im pretty sure the reason they changed it was because there were too many accidents.

Muebles Benitez Fuengirola - Where to Buy Cheap Bed in Marbella?

Cheap in Marbella?  No....you cant.  You have Ikea in Malaga or go to Muebles Benitez.

Ive been looking for a bed or 2.  Single or double, didnt matter as Ill just change all the beds around in my house to suit.

Went to Dreams first of all...but nothing....cheap cheap or caught my eye.  They did have  a lovely white kids bed but still was 450€uros.

What I wanted was a cheap bed with a reasonable matress.....its for guests so you dont want it too comfy do you?  Otherwise you never get rid of the buggers.

So I went to Muebles Benitez looked around and if you are looking for gorgeous kids bedrooms with space saving stuff...you MUST go here.  the beds are beautiful and you can change and modify them all.

Not being cheap enough he took me to my favourite part..."discounted, discontinued, crap" whatever you want to call it.

Thank you very much....a Pilkinton Double Bed Base 50€uros and a matress to go with 100€...delivery Monday Free!!!

Brilliant!!!

Weddings in Marbella - Reviews of Your Weddings in Marbella

Weddings seem to be a very popular topic and since last night have received  many emails, offering advice, services, venues, its been lovely and have decided to announce them all here as Im sure it wont just help me but many other people who are deciding to get married here in Marbella.

________________________________________________
Hi Jo,

We didn't get married here but if I had to pick a venue here it would be Marbella Golf and Country Club. I don't know if they do weddings but what an impressive place. A very approachable and nice american couple run the place. We have played a few rounds of golf out there and I have often said to my husband, ' I would nearly marry you again just to have our reception here'.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your day. Don't get stressed. I bought my wedding dress a week before my wedding. My sister who was bridesmaid was having a heart attack because I wasn't stressed at all.

Enjoy

 Hi Jo,

Hope you are well and congrats on getting married :)

I am also planning my wedding for June! We are having it in Gib as thats where we are from but everything is just so expensive nowadays! It depends on how many people will be going to urs, we have 120 or so guests so no matter what we do, its gonna cost a fortune. But if you have around 50 guests or so, theres a few places that do some brilliant package deals that would definitely be worth it. Let me know if you want more info on them as I have a whole load of stuff saved :)

We are having ours in Gauchos, not sure if u know it? Its a steak house but they have a huge terrace and they will be serving a huge carvery for the main course and they can meet ur requirements. The owners wife also has a new wedding dress shop and they are decently priced too.  They get their stock from http://www.veromia.co.uk/

Anyhoo, I have loads of info, from photographers and caterers to really nice affordable bridesmaid dresses! so if you need anything, just let me know :)

All the best

Buses Malaga to Nueva Andalucia

There is an Airport Bus from Malaga Airport to Marbella Bus Station and from Marbella Bus Station to Malaga Airport.

This bus normally takes around 45 minutes and costs around 4/5€uros per person which is very cheap.    In the winter the bus is every 2 hours, in the Summer every hour.  The times change once a year so do check online directly rather than relying on other websites to update their information.

You can also get the bus from Malaga to Estepona now.

Private Transfers from Malaga to Nueva Andalucia

Cheap Car Hire Malaga Airport - Nueva Andalucia

if you are coming on holiday to Nueva Andalucia or the Marbella area...personally I would recommend hiring a car.  Especially if travelling with kids and if you want to go on a couple of day trips.

For example...from Nueva Andalucia to an Aqua Park...you will be looking at minimum 50€ each way.  To Selwo Adventure Park propably about 20€ each way.

Then from the airport itself to Nueva Andalucia, a taxi will be about 85 to 100€ each way or the bus...4€ each per person and then you would still need to get a taxi from Marbella Bus Station to your Holiday Apartment in Nueva Andalucia

You dont need to book through the following company but use it as a guide as to how much hiring a car will be
Cheap Nueva Andalucia Car Hire.  Sometimes its not as expensive as you think.

When booking make sure you put the correct times of arrival and departure.  Sometimes if you departure is one hour ahead of the time you picked the car up you may pay for an extra day.  Maybe worth getting to the airport little earlier.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment go to www.lamaestranza.eu.

Private Transfer From Malaga Airport to Nueva Andalucia

Many people starting to look at booking holidays for the summer and I have had a number of questions regarding travelling from the Airport to Nueva Andalucia without hiring a car.

You do have the Airport Bus but travelling with 1 child let alone 3 isnt fun, plus you still need to get a taxi from the Marbella Bus Station.

I always recommend getting a private transfer, that way you have someone meet you, the price is agreed from the start and no worries about getting ripped off...as long as you book through a good company.

You can get your quote for a private transfer  by clicking here.

Monk Fish Mercadona

If you want fresh Monk Fish, you need to go to the fresh fish market in Marbella or El Corte Ingles.  But I did find Monk fish in Mercadona the other day...in the frozen section.  Its called Rape in spanish.

I decided to make it last night with risotto and it was delicious.  Very meaty and not watery at all like sometimes frozen fish can be.

Definately recommend.

Costa Advice Bureau - Lisa Sadleir

This article is written by Lisa Sadleir who writes for http://www.familylifeinspain.com/ but Lisa also works for The Costa Advice Bureau, who can help with you with practically anything and everything to do with living, working or owning a holiday apartment in Spain.    Should you wish to contact her please email  mijas@costaadvicebureau.com mentioning you saw this here.

The Spanish Traffic Laws Lottery

Do you fully understand the Spanish Traffic Laws?

Are you 100% certain that you have all the correct paperwork, insurance, MOT (ITV) certificated required to drive confidently on the roads in Spain?

Are you confident that you do not have any unpaid fines?

If you have answered “yes” to these two questions then we would like to congratulate you.

If you have answered “no” to either question, do not worry! You are amongst at least 98% of the expat population here in Spain.

The traffic laws are clearly set, however, whether you are caught out when not complying to them is very much like playing the Lottery. Whether you are stopped or not for breaking any rules can simply depend on where you are, who is patrolling on that day and maybe even what mood they are in. We hear so many people say “well I haven´t been stopped yet and there always police in our area” … these people are simply playing the lottery , the only difference being there is not a winning ticket as a prize, merely a “multa” (fine) when their luck runs out!
Recently, it seems that many people are receiving unexpected traffic fines with hefty penalty tags . There have also been incidents where people have been arrested and detained for unpaid fines that they had not paid in the past.

If this has happened to you, do not hesitate to contact Costa Advice Bureau and they will assist you to avoid this happening in the future.

Alternatively, contact us at mijas@costaadvicebureau.com and we will provide you with all the information you require.

Nueva Andalucia Comment....We were one of those people that received unpaid traffic fines.  They dated back nearly 18 months...we had no idea we had them.  No proof that they sent them, and no proof that we didnt receive them but we were stuck and had no choice but to pay them, but with Lisa´s help of being able to understand the fines clearer and know which ones could be paid straight away made life easier.

Spanish Porridge - Porridge in Mercadona

I love my Ready Brek but sometimes  I cant be bothered to go to Supersol or other supermarkets other than Mercadona.

I do buy Mercadona Porridge Oats...but I find them really lumpy and not as good as Ready Brek...until now.

Very simple...I put the Mercadona Oats in a Food Processor / Blender and made them smaller.  No more expensive Ready Brek for me...my 1€ Mercadona Box is just fine.

Marlows Manilva

Yesterday, on recommendation of the guys at Eye On Spain we went to Marlows Fish & Chips in Manilva.  We were actually in Sotogrande hoping to go the pub there fore sunday lunch..but it was all shut up.  Dont know if just for re-decoration or shut up due to no money...i dont know.

Anyway went to Marlows and whilst the area, on the main road above Eroski...doesnt really do it for me....the food, the service, the price DOES.

The food was just what you ordered...nothin fancy...just plain good old grub.  Roast lunches, fish and chips, pies, sausages...all that kind of food.

The actual restaurant was great with booths to fit 6 or 8 people comfortably.

4 Adults, 3 Kids
2 Adult Sunday Lunchs
3 Kids Meals (sausage & chips, fish & chips, Sunday lunch)+
Scampi & Chips
Pie & Chips
4 delicious desserts
2 glasses of cava, beer, wine, coke, water, tea & 2 coffees.

81€uros.....

The fish and chips was excellent, personally better than Pegottys and tastes even better when nearly half the price.

Absolutely brilliant, thanks to eye on spain for recommending.  Anymore great restaurants?

A bit of a "Blonde" Moment as they Say

So we moved into our new house nearly 2 years ago.  We put my daughter into one of the bedrooms and there she stayed for about 6 months before realising the other bedroom was 2 big tiles longer (so 12 tiles infact) which is quite alot more space.

It wasnt until I swopped the curtains over that realised the windows were different sizes too.

So then she had the "Bigger" room for the past year and a half, you know,  the room with 12 tiles more than the other.

Well, today, shes going back into the other room (the smaller room) as Ive had it decorated for her and guess what.....its not 12 tiles bigger.  Its not really bigger at all.  The only difference is that room is set forward slightly more and the wardrobes (which are 2 tiles wide) are set outwards (in the other room wardrobes are build inwards...inline with the door) ....therefore actually there a little space of 2x2 at the doorway. And yes I counted how many tiles there were from the door way to the window and not the wardrobe to the window and therefore no difference whatsoever except for these 4 tiles which is a completely bit of useless space..

Amazing what you find out after 2 years.

USP Hospital Marbella

I took my daughter today to the USP Hospital and was amazed how quickly I was seen.

Got there at about 12, gave my card, did all the paperwork, sat down in Pediatrics and then called in straight away.  I think that because she has been there 3 times in the past couple of weeks, they saw her as an emergency.

Straight away was sent to xray department and then back to pediatrics.  I think I was in and out including seeing the doctor and xray within 35 minutes.  I know I pay for this...but still its fantastic!

Ill still go and chat to my normal pediatrician at the centro de salud but for emergencies, the health service here is pretty amazing.

Signs of Recession Getting Worse in Marbella

I personally feel there is a second wave of the recession hitting certain people here in Marbella.  People have already moved from large premises to smaller and now some appear to be moving on again.  Either to apartments or even back to their home country.

I have people asking me constantly, if I hear of anyone needing a cleaner please let me know. More people are really starting to get desperate for work.

Ive seen so many changes, mainly people who had full time maids...now laying them off .  People getting rid of their offices and working from home.

People cutting down the private tution classes after school, cutting the number of hours their cleaners do.  The list goes on and on.

Even the cleaners I use for my apartment - they havent cleaned it since October...as I havent had anyone in it.

Hopefully with the problems in Tunisia and Egypt, people will be looking for a holiday closer to home, hopefully the Costa Del Sol.

Spanish Names

By 10.30am this morning I had met 2 Juans and 2 Antonios.  Everytime Im about to meet a Spanish Man....ooooo that sounds a bit strange....by that I mean,  a plumber, a builder etc...I have a little giggle to myself and bet they are eithe rcalled, Juan, Antonio, Carlos or Pepe and normally Im right.  If only I could place money on that Id be quite rich.

Mil Milagros Review - Review of Mil Milagros Marbella

Yesterday we went to Mil Milagros.  We went with some friends who came along with 2 kids and a 50€uro note....yeah right!

Anyway, I´d phoned in the morning to reserve a table...telephone manner very nice, so thats the first good point.  On entering the restaurant we were seen to straight away.  No standing around like a lemon, offered where would we wish to sit.  We chose inside at the back.

We all loved the restaurant, considering a modern building, it had high ceilings and was decorated really nice.  I felt very comfortable and maybe "at home" there which is a very nice feeling.  Lovely and light too, I dont like dark places where you cant see what you are eating.

Waiter come straight away, gave menus and took drinks order.  Ordering...we took quite a while, simply because much of it sounded delicious and we couldnt make up our minds.  Also us "English" are funny buggers...we kind of like the idea of "sharing" but then having a "whole" meal to oneself often beats it.

To start we had a couple of dishes, the baby sausage casserole and the churros (fish churros).  Both absolutely delicious.  Really gorgeous flavours coming through both dishes.  The kids loved them too and next time would probably just get a plate of this for their mains.

For Mains, the kids shared a pizza.  Now the toppings were quite straight forward  and when it came, the mushroom one it didnt look that great, but did taste nice, although very salty.   I had the Oxtail Burger with Froi Gras, which was absolutely delicious and mouthwatering and very very messy to eat.  The other mains were burgers and the Rigitoni.  Everyone enjoyed their mains.

Then desserts....the men chose the Choco Pudding which came in a tin...the noises coming from their direction and then if I tell you that the tins were licked clean....need I say more.  Whilst us women shared a tiramisu....beautifully presented, very very light and fluffy and also delicious.

The service was great, the restaurants was great, the food was great...the bill......not bad really, but what does add it up are the cover charges at 2€ per person for bread...however very very delicious bread.

So before we started it was 14€uros.  Then quite a few drinks, 2 starters to share, 5 main courses, 3 desserts came to 144€uros for 4 adults 3 kids.

Would I go back again....YES

You must try the Churros and the Baby Sausage....absolutely delicious.

Pneumonia in Marbella

Im into my 3rd week now of being at home with my little girl.  She started with a cough, which got very bad, then she complained of chest pains etc.

Hospital said she had an infection on her lungs which they now tell me was Pneumonia.  Pneumonia to me sounds very very scary and whilst she got better at the weekend, she took a turn for the worst the past couple of nights and was coughing so badly vomited last night.

Shes been on antibiotics, ventolin and another inhaler. This morning I spent over an hour at the doctors where they put her on a nebulizer.

The night and first thing in mornings are worst, during the day shes not so bad.  This morning she had terrible wheezing....its been awful as she has never been of school for so long.

UPDATE:

Last Thursday she complained of chest pain...I took her straight to the USP again who did another xray and said the mucus is blocking her lungs.  Continue with the Inhalers and wait till Next week before we decide to give another batch of antibiotics.

Today I went back to my pediatrician who said once again, she can go to school except nothing physical...no running and especially no swimming.   She must continue with ventolin and pulmicort 4 times a day and must take a tablet every night for the next 2 months. Mainly to prevent it getting worse.

My daughter has always been a really strong kid, but the doctor said that this Pneumonia has really knocked her immune system and we need to build it up again.

He advised no running around,  nothing physical, lots of fluids and also said cupping our hands and tapping her back can help remove some of the mucus.

Shes absolutely fine in herself but guess thats the problem...she and us think shes better than she actually is.

I have heard of 3 more kids today with this so it seems its going around.

Weather in Marbella Now

Today Feburary 3rd 2011 the weather is amazing and has been for the past few days.  Some days its chilly...very chilly but yesterday and today been sunshine and gorgeous blue sky.   So if you are coming on holiday to Marbella today...pack layers, in the sun its hot, in the shade its chilly and nightime in apartments is quite cold.

Milmilagros, Mil Milagros, Mil Mil Agros Marbella - Nueva Restaurante Dani Garcia Marbella,

Mil Milagros Marbella - MilMilAgros Golden Mile Restaurant

Read My Review of Mil Milagros

The other night whilst driving to the 24 hour farmacia on the Golden Mile, we passed that beige building on the opposite side of the road of Puente Romano / Marbella Club.  It was a restaurant....PACKED with people.

Then I found out that Dani Garcia is opening another 3 restaurants in Andalucia...and yes...Mil Milagros, or Milmilagros, Or Mil Mil Agros is one of his.  Its not very clear exactly what the name is and their website....well not constructed yet.

I stopped and rather than tapas like La Moraga Puerto Banus, its more Pizzas, Pastas, Burgers etc.  Prices looked ok too.

Looks very nice and I will definately be trying it out soon!.

We have a terrible problem with mould in one of our apartments over the winter months.  The other day some specialists came to look at it and sprayed this spray on it.  Gladio, Spray 85 El Antimoho.
