Food to Eat on Bad Stomachs

Everyone has their own ways of dealing with food poisoning / viruses when it comes to what food you should eat.

Personally, we like to starve for a day at least and then start eating plain foods like below.

Here in Marbella Spain, Helicopterous say...

Drink Aquarius....bit like lucozade you can get in Mercadona and everywhere.

Eat plain white food,  fish, potato, chicken, rice.

Grill not fry

You can add lemon and soy sauce to flavour

Bananas they say mash and leave till turning a little brown and then add sugar and lemon.

Same with apple, grate and leave till turning a little brown add sugar and lemon.

If you have other ways that you think are good leave your comments.

UK Law Going Mad - If Rapists Admit they get half the usual time

I had the most dreadful night sleep. My man decided that Id had enough rest after a massive head injury so decided to become  ill himself, so im a very busy bee recuperating myself and looking after man with flu.  Going to make a big pan of chicken soup.  Poor man, its the second flight he has had to cancel in 1 week, the airlines are doing very well.

Anyway....

Ive just been to Mercadona and heard this story on the radio that has wound me up something cronic.  Rapists / Sex Offenders.....if they plead guilty they can get there sentence reduced by half.

I didnt listen to the whole story but one part that i did hear was that they "the people who obviously havent been through a rape ordeal themselves or had anyone in their family be raped or know anyone that has been raped" say it will be best for the victim as they wont have to go to court.

Have you ever heard something so F&%&ing RIDICULOUS IN YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

These people dont get enough years in jail as it is, yet if they plead guilty it could be halved....great the victim doesnt have to go to court along with the 20 other victims that will be raped every 15months he is let out after pleading guilty to each rape.

What planet do these people live on?  The socalled intellegent people that have been to university and have letters after their name yet think this is a good idea?  This is good for the Victim?

Just go through all the girls and women that have been raped and or murdered in the past few years and see how many of those men had already commited a crime and been let out.

Now, all these people that go on rampages about tax and shutting libraries and about war....this is something to go to town about and cause a stink.

Right feel better now ive had my rant :)

Acupuncture in Marbella

A while back I went to see an Acupuncturist that was recommended to me.  My main reason to go was for allergy.  I was sick and tired of feeling lousy all the time, blocked up, sore throat and this year was particularly bad.

The initial consultation is great, someone that takes note of all your ailments, bit like what you wish your doctor would do.

Even during the session I started off completely blocked up and left being able to breath clearly.

Ive never had acupunture before and certainly didnt like the idea of needles, but in a funny way its actually cured my fear of needles.  You dont really feel them.

Another time I went with a really bad headache and left feeling so much better.  The headache didnt go completely but was so much lighter and tolerable.

Last week I had a session as I felt lousy and hadnt slept for 3 nights but that night I slept so much better.

Im not here pitching or selling you anything but if you are interested in acupuncture email me and I will pass your details on.

Its funny how years can go by, you put up with certain ailments like PMS, Headaches, Allergy.  I have, I thought PMS was just a normal thing but actually its not normal and not every woman suffers.

Head Injuries in Spain

Had a few emails asking where i am....

Well on Saturday 7 May I had a pretty bad accident and you can read and meet the man who I think saved my life right here.   I'm home resting, in a bit of pain, and suffering with vertigo as have a  problem in my neck.

So that's it...quite horrific at the time,  and with it being the head very scary. Now I have concussion that can stay for a week or 3....I don't know exactly but have to give it time.

Head Injury, Private Hospitals and Social Security

So, once helicopterous came they took me to the USP Hospital.  I dont remember everything that happened here but my partner has told me much of it.  I was checked over initially if anything like neck or back was broken.    I was also taken for Head Scan.  My head was stitched up.  It seemed I was there for hours....well I was and just as I was about to leave they saw my arm had a massive lump.  They are funny as in the UK a  doctor would touch it look at it but here they just take you straight away for an xray.

When leaving I was told to come back on Monday to collect my TAC (head scans).

Monday we went back, I felt lousy and had to ask to see a doctor again.  I explained that I felt sick and dizzy, he checked my scar and said...all normal.  How the hell can I be Normal?  I got my envelope of head scans and expected to be sat down with a doctor to talk through them.....Nope.  I just had my scans of my head / brain, with a letter that I translated to say they couldnt see anything bad.  Told to come back on Saturday for Stitches out.

Feeling really bad the following day I decided to make an appointment with Centro De Salud, the social security doctors.    If I laid on my side the room just spun around and around and I couldnt focus.  I felt sick and just ill.

Wednesday I went to La Campana, saw a doctor straight away who seem to take note that I was feeling sick and dizzy.  She touched my neck which hurt and said go for a neck xray.  The next day I went to the Ambulatorio in San Pedro.  Was in and out within 15 minutes.  Then back to my doctor to show her the scan.  The scan showed why I had what she called Vertigo.  My neck is straight rather than curved which happens in a head trauma.  She gave me ibuprofen for the pain and some other medicine for the sickness.  She said that it could take time to feel back to normal.  I have a massive bruise on my arm and this bruising is also inside my body.  If I dont feel better after a week, she told me to go to the hospital again.

I had seen my acupuncturist who recommended that once its been 2 weeks I would be best to see an Osteopathy to try and put things back in their place.

Today I saw an osteopathist who said I was very very lucky and cannot beleive that nothing is fractured.  He explained that I should have a number of sessions.  If I  dont, I will suffer in the long run.

So thats where I am now.  Whilst we have amazing access to both health systems here, there is no aftercare.  Noone told me what I may feel like afterwards and I tell you after a head injury its not nice.

I thought I was going mad with all these symptoms I was gettting, nausea, dizzyness, pains everywhere, my jaw hurts, ears, teeth feel really sensitive, emotions are everywhere.  When I lay with my head to the right side the world spins round and around.  If I stand up too quick I feel sick.  Clapping, banging any sharp noises go right through me. And I havent been able to go downstairs where I had the accident.  Wed been in the hospital all day and not once did they say what may happen, what I may feel.

I hope with time that memories of the accident fade and Im not woken with the nightmares of it that I have been.   Im sure it will as they say Time is a Healer.

But if you know anyone thats had a head injury....just because they may look ok, can walk and talk doesnt mean they are. My symptons started between 24 and 48 hours after the initial fall and only today 10 days after the accident have I felt ok to drive, although Im only driving where necessary.

UPDATE... Well its been over 4 weeks since the accident and whilst Im alot better Im not 100%.  My head still hurts and often have shooting pains  through it.  My neck and shoulder are still uncomfortable and cant stand lots of noise with banging and shouting...they just go right through me.  I also seem to have done some damage to my pelvis area in the fall too.  Ive been seeing a cranial oesteopath which has been a little weird but wonderful and that has definately helped.  Having someone who can understand how you feel is sometimes all you need.    I
My Final Thought
Personally, should I or my family ever been in a serious incendent like this I think I would go straight to the Costa Del Sol Hospital.   Whilst the USP were good at patching me up, I left there feeling ill and not one person advised me as to what I may feel in the coming hours / days.  It wasnt until I went to my Centro De Salud that she recognised my symptons and knew it was a problem in my neck.

Aftercare in Spain....there is none.  My Oestepath cannot beleive that noone has asked to see me in a month or so.  Its down to you and your family and finding information out on the internet.

School Years in Spain January to December or September to September

Its funny what occurs during the day and then I feel the need to write about it.  My daughter has been doing lots of activities out of school recently, mixing with more Spanish Children from all different schools.

Shes been playing with some kids in the same year that she wouldnt normally play with, but they seem so much younger than her....well the fact is that they are, 6 to 12 months younger.

In my daughters class, the oldest children seem to be the nationalities whose mother tongue is English with the exception of a couple of other nationalities...but Im 99% sure there are no Spanish Children born between the September and December 2003 in her class.

Many of the Spanish boys & girls are younger, some alot younger....Why?  Well, the reason is because the Spanish School Year is January to December.  Take my daughter who will be 8 in December (and move up a year in Sept) at the moment in Y2 doing Spanish 6años.  If she was in Spanish School she would be studying Spanish for 7años.

When she started the school, she had already studied 3años in Guaderia.  I asked if she could start the next year up as otherwise she had to repeat a year.  I was told....NO, a very very clear no.  But it seems that if you are Spanish, then you can.

There are so many kids who are in the wrong year its unbeleivable, but basically its so they are in the right year for Spanish System....yet why send your child to a English/International School.  I know of so many children who are between 9 and 12 months older than my daughter yet 2 school years ahead.

How on earth do these kids who are Spanish with Spanish Parents who dont necessarily speak english keep up with the curriculum which is mainly English?

Whats sad is that when they were very small you couldnt really see a difference, but now I think the difference is starting to show especially between girls and boys. The classes arent evenly balanced at all and whilst in every single school class that runs year to year you will get up to a years difference....there will never be a good balance of Spanish and English Kids the same ages in the same class.  It seems the Spanish Children will either be in a year or two above what they should be and if they are in your kids class they will be the  youngest in the class.

Apple Store Marbella

UPDATED:  Friday 25th November Marbella opened its doors to the largest Apple Store in Spain.  Its is in La Cañada Shopping Centre which is on the N340 (the main motorway) from Malaga Airport to Marbella.

Apple Store Marbella Opening

Apple Store Marbella Opening
I was asked the other day if there is an Apple Store in Marbella....at the moment there isnt, however there is Marbella Mac Solutions who can help with everything to do with Macs.

But there are rumours that Apple will be opening a store in Marbella by the end of the Year.

If Apple do open a store where would you put it?

Apple Store La Cañada?

Apple Store Puerto Banus?

Apple Malaga City?

Spanish Mums V´s English Mums at Swimming Classes

Well, we are into the second month of swimming classes with the Ayuntamiento.  Its an experience....put it that way.  From the way the payments have to be made to the actual lessons and changing rooms....its completely and utterly caotic, but Ive learnt to go with the flow and accept it....or get out.

The place is like a bus station, if you dont like crowds and noise...dont go here.  Its so funny seeing how different we are, the Spanish V´s English Mums.

Once its time for the kids to finish swimming and collect them all the mums get the towels ready,  along with the shower gel, the shampoo, the conditioner, moisturiser....they grab the kids and its quickly into the shower.  (sometimes if theres a grandma, the grandma is already set at the shower point).  You really have to fight for your place!  You have never heard so much noise in your life.   They even bring hairdryers....g-d forbid a child should go out with wet hair...then I think...well maybe Im a bad bad mum...but if its cold, I bring a her a hat.  All you hear them say is "Pelo Mojado Pelo Mojado" (wet hair wet hair)....so what!!!!!

Meanwhile, me and my daughter have found a nice quiet little area where she just dries off quickly, gets her clothes back on and we are out of there in the car before many of them have even finished in the shower.

I leave there needing a stiff drink!

La Esquina Marbella Menu Del Dia

Menu del Dias are great, infact, we were contemplating having menu del dia every day, ok, it will cost a little more than my weekly shop but all that time i save cooking.....

The other day we were already in Marbella Old Town and was going to rush home to cook some lunch but then decided to take a menu del dia at La Esquina.  For 9.50€ get 3 courses and its good.  I had tuna & potato salad, followed by half chicken and chips and then cherry crumble which was rather yummy.

For a little over 20€ both fed and didnt need to eat again in the evening.

La Esquina is also the Corner Cafe in Marbella.  Take the road where the car park is at the top of the dali statues, continue along and its the last on the right, on the corner.

German Sausage Bar La Cañada

Saturday we had such a German Day, we had German Sausages for Breakfast at the German Bar La Canada then in the evening went to Il Cantuccio Marbella which is an Italian Restaurant run and cooked by a German Lady.

My German friend told me about the place and I think it may become our place for breakfast or quick snack.  Sausages are delicious, choice of beef or pork and all the rest of the food looked great too.

For 3 of us, 3 sausages, bread and a couple of drinks bill was about 12€

il Cantuccio Marbella - Il Cantuccio Marbella Reviews & Telephone Number

I feel so big and heavy as it seemed last week I ate out every day. I have found a few little gems and have realised that there are some good restaurants out there and theres no need to spend a fortune anymore.

This little restaurant was recommended to me as a "treat", its not particularly cheap, but everything is hand made and its almost like a one man band as the lady who owns it, also cooks and serves.

The menu is quite meaty and you can choose of  the menu, have a 3 course for 29€ or even go for the taster menu which is about 45€uros.

We had 3 courses each plus a bottle wine and a couple of bottles of water.  Home made raviolli, Bruschetta, veal, steak, chocolote souflet and homemade icecream.  The bill was 94€ which isnt particulary cheap, especially when 6 of us ate out the following day for just a little more, but the food was very very good and when you know that everything from the bread to the ice cream is homemade, you appreciate it.

Il cantuccio is right in the old town, in Callejon del Santo Cristo 3,  its off a little plaza close to the Hotel Claude.
