Hollister La Cañada - Hollister Marbella

Hollister Opening Marbella
Hollister opened today, the same day as the largest Apple Store in Spain. I did get time to take a photo, but I didnt get time to wait around to go in as they had a few electrical problems.

I will pop back next week to have a look at the prices and see what ranges they have.

Wedding Fair Marbella, Boda Marbella Palacio de Congresso

Yesterday we popped along to the Wedding Fair at Marbella Palacio de Congresso.  It started around 12pm.  We got there about 12.15ish.

At 12.30 the fashion show was to start so we took our seats and waited a few minutes.  Then this guy / presenter came on and said, it will be another 15 minutes.  In which time I took a wander around at all the different stalls etc.  There were big hotel groups including Melia, H10, Golf Courses, Caterers, Wedding Dresses, Photographers etc.  I have to say I was shocked that not one person said "hola", or asked "can I help you", "when are you getting married?" etc (obviously in Spanish) .  Not one!  Maybe it was a little early, many of the workers were busy doing their hair and make up or laying out chocolates and then moving them around the plate back and forth whilst chatting on the phone.

Back to the fashion show.  The presenter, once again says, sorry for the delay, will be a few more minutes and then all of a sudden this music comes on and this guy breaks into song.  Well that was it for me.  I just couldnt control myself from laughing.  He was a good singer, but it was just a bit of a shock and then how he really over played it.  It was all a bit tooo....you know what I mean?

Finally after about 3 songs including his version of Angels by Robbie Williams, the fashion show started.  I finally just pulled myself back together and calmed myself down when all of sudden the music starts again and these "models" start walking up the catwalk.  Well, I have never seen anyone, or any model walk the way they were walking and then mixed with this weird movement / dance, it was all just too much.  I cant even say the dresses were nice.  One model had a real problem keeping hers above her chest.  They really weren´t nice.  But then thats the difference between Spanish & English Style.
The fashion show sadly came to an end and so we walked around all the stalls and once again, not one person even bothered to even get any eye contact let alone chat.

This was a fantastic opportunity to put themselves out there and they didnt.

Oh and laying half in the sea and half out on the rocks in your white wedding dress seems to be a really popular pose here in Spain.    Theres and idea for any Bridezillas out there.

On a positive there was a fantastic make up and hair place which I will digg out there details and post up.  And also a website called Bodaclick....ok, one lady did speak to me then.

Fibroids Spain & Womens Problems In Spain

So many women I know suffer  badly with fibroids & cysts, painful periods etc.  Its quite amazing how many of us are walking around with rather large cysts and fibroids inside us.

You can go to so many Gynacologists here in Marbella and each one will give you a different reason as to why you suffer.  You could get one say, go on the pill, another say you need a hesterectomy.....HONESTLY!

Personally I think its best to get into the System of the NHS.  I and a couple of my friends just dont trust the private doctors we have been seeing.  Its all about the money!

In the meantime, if you want some more information on Fibroids you can read all about them here and even email a doctor direct.

Buying Diesel for Heating in the Home in Spain

Hi Jo,
Do you, or any of your readers know about how to go about buying diesel for the heating in the home.  We have a large tank that will soon need filling.

Who are the best people to call, how much would a tank cost, are there different companies to try get a cheaper deal.

Any help appreciated.  Thank you.

B

Dear B,

I have the following details.  Call Repsol / Ore Oil.  The Marbella Area Telephone Number is 0034 952 772711.  You call them, tell you where you live, how much diesel you want.  They may say there is a minimum amount you have to order like 500€ but if you say you just need 200 or 300€´s worth they will do it.  They will normally say the next day or two and you pay cash on delivery.

There is normally a pump outside the house in the garden where they fill up.

I think the price is about 1€ per litre.  If anyone knows another company that is cheaper do leave a comment.

Regards

Jo

House Clearances Marbella

Ive been asked a couple of times about House Clearing and Clearances in Marbella Area.  With so many people leaving for the UK or downsizing, this is quite popular question.

The problem comes when you expect lots of money of all your stuff.  I have called people in the past to look at a whole load of stuff thinking a good couple of hundred, but it ends up being very little or you can actually end up paying them to take it away.

In the end I did my own Car Boot Sale, which is quite alot of work, preparation, getting up early, arguing over a literally pence and nearly a whole day out of your weekend.  Not everyones cup of tea.  You also have to be prepared to sell stuff  that was once really expensive for 1 or 2 €uros and its not until you see  for yourself that you realise why you may not be paid as much as you thought for all your stuff.

Email me if you have more questions about House Clearing in Marbella

Review of Aventura Amazonia Elviria - Aventura Amazonia Marbella

Our Review of Aventura Amazonia Elviria Marbella

After hearing about Aventura Amazonia and going to look at it a couple of weeks ago, we went last Saturday with some friends from school.

The times are on the hour every hour but you have to arrive 30 minutes beforehand for the security talk and iniciation course.

We took 11am slot arriving at 10.30am.  There seemed to be alot of waiting around before we actually got started, infact it was about 12 before we even started the course ourselves.

So firstly the belts / harnesses are put on.  Then we were told to stand in a circle and listen to the instructor.  Because there were more Spanish people, and of course we are in Spain, it was in Spanish, although its quite visual and if you really cannot understand Im sure they will translate.  The instruction spoke about where to walk, how to use the harnesses and the zip wires and everything to do with being safe.  Everyone then tries the iniciation course  and if you do it wrong, you are corrected.  If you dont listen or if the kids dont listen, they know which ones to look out for and they will take you off the course if you do something wrong.

So finally we are let loose, on our own. We started on the kids course, which was walking across moving planks, zip wires, climbing up through netting etc...all really good fun.

Then we all moved onto the next course up, which was slightly more scary and higher.    More walking along moving planks, swinging from one tree to another, walking along wires, climbing ropes...my little girl got about half way and then she had to go down with her daddy who volunteered rather quickly to go with her.  She was just too scared, to be be honest, I was rather scared, but I carried on until a big long zip wire which was brilliant fun.  If you have a fear of heights, well this will make it either better or worse!

Then we did the kids one again with my little girl which suddenly seemed really easy and boring for us adults.  By the time we finished this, we were hot, tired and it was time to go.  You are suppose to have 3 hours in the park but can go a little over.  But when so many people start the same course at the same time there is a backlog.

What to wear
Trainers or shoes with grips.  I wore trainers, next time I will try my walking boots.
Long Jeans or track bottoms.  (I wore light army trousers but the ties and zips kept getting caught) TShirts / Sweatshirts

Dont wear
Expensive Watches, Scarves, Necklaces, Rings, Bracelets.  My husband actually lost his bracelet that I bought hime for Christmas.

Food / Drink
There are vending machines for crisps, chocolate and drinks.  They encourage you to bring your own food and you just leave it in the car or in the park and can sit and eat at many of the tables and chairs around.

My Thoughts
It seemed to take forever the iniciation and waiting for everyone to arrive, but once we got started it was brilliant.  We all had such a great time.  Its tiring physically and emotionally.  You get to points where you think "I cant do this"  but you do it, and the feeling is just amazing.    I will definatly go back and want to start on the adult courses and try and do the next 2 levels.  Whether I will or not I dont know, but Im going to give it try.   We all absolutely LOVED it.

Its 20€ for adults, 16€ for kids and 1€ discount for groups 8 or more.

Directions to Aventura Amazonia Elviria
Come of at Elviria (Don Carlos), its mountain side, drive up to the first round about and its on the right hand side there.

La Casita La Heredia, La Casita Benahavis Marbella

Saturday Night we were child free and thought Id treat my very hard working man to a night out.

I started browing through Trip Advisor for good reviews on restaurants in Marbella, San Pedro, Benahavis.  La Casita had some great reviews.  I also remember hearing about it a few times through friends and aquaintances.

I phoned up and was able to book for that evening, which was a little surprising, considering how good it sounded.

Driving to the Restaurant really isn´t as bad as some of the reviews say.  They obviously went a long time ago before the road was built as it is now.  Its just about 5 minutes up the Ronda Road from the toll area.

We arrive at La Casita in La Heredia, its very pretty indeed.  Straight away we were seen to and asked if we wanted inside or out.  I chose inside, simply because a breeze got up and was a little chilly, although I wish I chose outside now.

However, inside was beautifully decorated, although rather empty.

The menu was delicious, there were so many things to choose from.  For a little taster we were served some lovely hummus and bread.

For starters we went for the Duck Spring Rolls and also the Chicken Liver Pate.  Both beautifully presented and amazing flavours.  Really really good food.

For mains I went for the Duck Breast served on sweet potato mash and green bean wrapped in bacon and the other main course was a scallop and lobster dish.

Although rather stuffed, with the food being so good, we had to try a pudding and went for just one treacle tart.  Also very good, although it didnt blow me away.

On top of all the food we had 2 bottles of water, a glass of cava, 2 glasses of white wine and a glass of Cognac.  So you can see, 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert and these drinks and the bill came to just over 100euros.

The food was excellent, really really good, some of the best food I have eaten here in Marbella.  The service I cannot fault.  There was always someone around if needed and it was regularly checked that everything was ok without being over the top.

The only thing is I wish I sat outside as inside was quiet and facing a fire extinguisher wasnt the nicest sight and also whilst it was brilliant to watch the guys in the kitchen on the screens inside, there should have been some nicer music playing alongside.  Some french cafe music would have been nice.

Will we go again?  Yes

Would I recommend?  Yes

Aceite 24k Desmaquilla Mercadona - 24k Gold Oil Make Up Remover Mercadona

I love it when I find good beauty products at great prices.  Ive used a number of make up removers before and eye make up removers.  I normally try a few and always end up reverting back to the good old favourite Johnson Baby Oil....but I do find this very very oily.

I have used expensive Mac, medium priced and cheap, Mac I have to say I was very dissapointed it.  I remember it being very drying and it wasnt easy to remove the mascara, and a nearly 20€uros I expected a lot more.

The other day whilst doing my weekly shop in Mercadona I was drawn to this beautiful bottle of Make Up Remover in Mercadona called 24k in quite a large bottle with a pump at the top.

For about 5€ I thought Id try it.  Well I started using it last week, and I was very impressed.  You rub it in with your finger tips and then wipe off with a wet sponge, cotton wool or flannel.  It really removed everything very easily.

However, the real test is in the morning, you think you have removed it all and then find black all over your nice white sheets.  Nothing!

I absolutely love this product, its oily without being too oily.  Removes make up and mascara with ease, looks great on the bathroom top and is only about 5€uros.

I even use a little at night as a lip balm!

If you try it please leave your comments.

Governed Body for Private Schools Marbella

I have been asked if there is a governed body for private schools in Marbella and Spain generally. Personally I dont think there is....bit like the private doctors here...theres noone really monitoring them all.

If you do know where you go to complain above the School, please email in.
